Swashbuckler with Estoc + Whip

Advice

Hi, im thinking in a build of an swashbuckler to PFS and maybe someone could help me with some tips.

My basic idea is using a Estoc to deal damage and a whip to control the battlefield.

My ideas for the firsts levels are:

1. (basic) Dodge/Combat expertise
1. (human) Military tradition -> Estoc and Whip proficency
3. (basic) Combat reflexes
4. (swashbuckler) Weapon Focus Whip
5. (basic) Whip mastery

I looked also a the misterious avenger arquetype, but trading i don't see the whip so useful for swashbuckler deeds and i dont want to loose improved critical.

Also thinked at 2WF but Pricise Strike doesn't work with that.

Any thougs about it? Thanks you in advance!

Precise Strike doesn't work with two weapons in general. Could you switch over to Scorpion Whip (or various other lethal whip options) so you've got one weapon for both damage and battlefield control?

That'd allow Precise Strike and focusing feats on just one weapon.

Thanks for the answer. Yes, this could be an interesting option: something like this right?

1. (basic) Weapon Focus Whip
1. (human) Military tradition -> Escroption Whip and Whip proficency
3. (basic) Slashing grace
4. (swashbuckler) Combat reflexes
5. (basic) Whip mastery

The only think I dont like is loosing the high critical threat of the estoc (or rapier or whatever) with the improved critical at level 5.

Just remark that in my first post my idea was to have two weapons but only use one each round, the estoc with precise strike and the whip to disarm/trip.

I think you need Improved Whip mastery to threaten with the whip, and bring the AoOp to bear for the control element?

You could go for Quick Draw and carry multiple mundane whips. This way you can equip them as free action, drop them when you want Precise Strike and equip the next one afterwards.

Further, a level 3 swashbuckler with Quick Draw can draw one weapon as part of the initiative check - that could be either your damage weapon or a whip.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Conjoy:

Yes, totally right. I didn't put it because is for level 8 but is one of the main objectives of the build. Threaten reach area with combat reflexes.

@SheepishEidolon:

I think it is not necessary that trick. Precise strike requires "not to attack" but you can have a weapon on your offhand if you dont use it.

"To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield other than a buckler"

P.D.: sorry i dont now how to quote 8S

Sovereign Court

You can also get Two-Weapon Grace if you want to go the two-weapon fighting way. It lets you use Fencing Grace, Slashing Grace, Starry Grace even if you have a weapon in the off-hand.

@Purple Dragon Knight

Thanks! looks interesting feat but I fear that it's not allowed in Society play, right? :(

We don't know yet. The book just came out so currently it isn't listed on the Additional Resources page.

Thanks Gisher! Interest fact! Ill check the updates in the additional resources to know if this feat is legal in PFS.
