so i have a build. Its nearly identical, but i am torn between two different races. Wayang and halfling. The actual hp/skill/save differences are below
Halfling has -1 HP,+1 reflex, +2 ride, -2 stealth (lower con, so lower death threshhold.) Halfling would also be lacking darkvision..
This is for a hunter riding a Dire Bat with a lance. Spells are the same, damage is the same, AC is the same. Those are the only real issues. There is no right or wrong answers, and i can give the stat array if people really want it. Just let me know which way you would go and why if you dont mind. For FLAVOUR definatly leaning towards wayang, i like the idea of being a flying shadow that swoops down and obliterates everything

Wayangs have a Wis penalty on a Wis caster, which does seem odd but if you can make it work then go for it.
In that case, pick Wayang. You mention that it appeals to you for flavour and that is the number one priority in playing a new character.
A Wayang also has advantages a Halfling does not and one important one is Darkvision. It is always useful in a general sense, but especially because you are riding a dire bat. Dire bats use echolocation/blindsense. You do not want to be carrying a torch around. You want to be the silent swooper of the shadows.

Think iam gonna go with the Wayang, not a ton of feed back, but two thathave suggested as much. Think he shall be called Bryce Wayang and Ride the mighty Gothym!
Aww c'mon.
You knew he had to be a Wayang from the start.
It's a great idea and a lethal joke character. Sounds funny, is possibly a powerful terror. A stealth flying lancer is not what most enemies want to receive.

First Halflings get +1 to ALL saves. You can also change this to get a +2 before rolling or +1 after rolling 3 times a day.
Second, unless it matters the penalty to STR isn't that much important, a starting 15 is quite good.
Third, halfling are a much more familiar race for everyone, unless you always play with weird races.
Fourth, halfling can potentially ignore the Slow trait and move at 30ft forgoing the +2 to Acrobatics/Climb
Fifth, extremely limited FCB compared to halflings.

the mention of only +1 to the single save is because of statblock changes based on race. As a lancer movement speed of my own should generally be irrelevant. I have them drawn up stat wise to be equal in strength, thats why their damage is the same.
Are you a druid or hunter?
Druid/Hunter: Add a +1/4 luck bonus on the saving throws of the druid's animal companion.
It might not be much, but that's a +2 at level 8 that stacks with everything you're giving your AC.
Imporance? If your AC gets damaged it needs to make a fly check.
If it gets paralyzed, stunned, or anything that prevents action, it falls, nothing you can do about it.
