Gnoll Paladin / Bloodrager of Sarenrae: what's the best way to do this?

Advice

Just curious here but what's the best way to do a gnoll paladin/bloodrager of Sarenrae?

I think that two good paladin archetypes would be Holy Guide and Warrior of the Holy Light.

As for stats, I don't want to do any dump stats as I never liked the idea of dump stats.

I think the Celestial bloodline would be perfect for the bloodrager side of him.

So what do y'all suggest?

1. How many levels in each?
2. Why a Gnoll?
3. Paladin + Bloodrager because Charisma?
4. Why the Celestial Bloodline? Whats his background to make this reasonable in a Gnoll?

Well gnolls are always seen as evil so playing one that's not has always appealed to me.

Not too sure on how many levels for each though, but yes, he'll have a high charisma making paladin and bloodrager useful for him.

As for the Celestial bloodline, well, Gneirk (that's his name by the way) was always the runt of the litter and often picked on by well everyone because of his golden white fur. He wasn't like the other gnolls no matter how hard he tried. Then one day his pack tried to pillage a trade caravan. They didn't know it was heavily protected. His pack was slaughtered but amongst the caravan's defenders was a paladin of Sarenrae who saw that Gneirk wasn't truly evil and against the nays of his companions he healed the young gnoll and raised him like a son, teaching him to channel his noble soul in order to protect the weak and hapless.

Gneirk Would need a high charisma as he now believes that Sarenrae spared him that day so that he could lead other gnolls to redemption.

Still working on how he got Celestial blood in his veins but a possible idea is that a peri angel lies somewhere in his family tree.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well gnolls are amazing. +2 Str, +2 Con, +2 natural armor and darkvision.

I'd probably do this:

Str (18) Dex (14) Con (14) Int (8) Wis (10) Cha (14)

Lvl 1-3: Enlightened Paladin
Lvl 3+: Enlightened Bloodrager

The 3 paladin levels give you +2 AC and saves from your Charisma (+3 if you get a +2 Cha item), improved unarm strike (situational, but good to have) and Aura of Excellence (great auto buff for you and your team)

Enlightened Bloodrager trades out your crappy Celestial Bloodline powers for extra spells (Lvl 0 spells and access to Bloodrager/Druid/some wizard spells). That's awesome. And at Lvl 7 you get to Bloodrage without any penalties.

The only 'downside' is that you need light armor. But a mithril breastplate counts as light armor.

You only get 2 skill points per level. Grab linguistics so you can speak common and then put everything into diplomacy and intimidate. Two great skills for a paladin gnoll.

At Lvl 7 when Bloodraging, assuming you have a +2 Cha item and a +1 mithril breastplate; ring and amulet...you'll have AC 25 (+7 armor, +1 ring, +1 amulet, +2 Dex, +3 Cha, +1 dodge)

You'll also be rocking Str22. Add on a two handed weapon with power attack, furious focus and weapon focus, and you'll be good to go.

For spells, at Lvl 7 you get longstrider (giving you 50ft movement) and at Lvl 10 barkskin (+2 AC). Both have long durations, allowing you to cast and forget.

Eventually get +2 for all items, including a +2 buckler (-1 hit, +3 AC). You'll have a really tanky character (AC and saves) who can hit like a truck and who can move really fast.
