So I was just told by a relative that Joe Dever, the author of the Lone Wolf books passed away.
A sad day for those who used to read his books.

Without him, I would have never made a character. Lone Wolf was one of the first books I read, and was the first role-playing game I ever enjoyed.
I will miss him very much, and can never thank him enough for the effect he had on my life.
Same here. His books were my absolute first introduction to gaming. A true before/after moment. I had the opportunity to meet him at a con this year, which feels good now. A sad part is that the reissued LW books are now no longer going to be finished by number 29 to 32, which were never published in the original run.

I should say that they probably will not be written. I don't have any information about it.
We'll see what happens. His son has indicated that this will be addressed after the services and funeral are over.
Joe Dever was literally working up until his last day on the last three books. I expect that most of book 30 was completed already. It is possible much of book 31 has been completed or at least has much of it outlined and written down if not laid out.
Seeing Joe Dever's devotion to his loyal fans, it is possible that his family will either release what he wrote in his final days, or attempt to polish it up and finish it up.
However, we'll see. This issue is on the back burner until the mourning is done.

One of my favorite memories from my childhood was running to Dark Star Comics and Books in Yellow Springs after church, just to see if there was a copy of any of the Lone Wolf books for sale. I picked up a number of them that way, and had to use the random matrix in the back, as I didn't know d10s existed. Very sad when I heard it, and I hope the remaining hardcovers can be finished.

I enjoyed the Lone Wolf series a lot, they were quite fun to read growing up. /hat tip.

My research says that Joe had notes for the final three books, and that the family has them. I'm hopeful that they can be completed by someone with a great deal of love and respect for the world Joe built and release them, possibly with a portion of the proceeds going to some charity that Joe would have favored in life.

I met Joe, he was a lovely man, engaged with his fans, and loved roleplaying. He will be sorely missed.
I grew gaming with the Lone Wolf gamebooks.
The first one I played was The Kingdoms of Terror then I tracked down everything else published... I believe I was 11 or 12 at the time and to this day his work reminds me of my youth. I can't claim I knew him but I always tought of him as a good man. His departure saddens me a lot.
