The basement of the Alamo has an interesting bicycle museum.
Seriously though, I used to live within day trip distance of San Antonio and would regularly make the trip for lunch on the River Walk. As HMM said, the weather, food, culture and sites are worth a recommendation. But that was over 30 years ago. I've only been back once since (in 2010), but from what I saw, little had changed.
If you don't need to live in San Antonio proper, I'd highly recommend checking out San Marcos or New Braunfels. They're about midway between San Antonio and Austin. The cost of living may be less expensive, The scenery is beautiful. And you're between thirty minutes to an hour from either San Antonio or Austin.

I lived in San Antonio for 5 years, and I was the VL there until I left.
Things I love about San Antonio:
Weather - I am missing the San Antonio winters now that I am in Alaska (Alaska Summers are much better)
Cost of Living - Depending of your field of work the pay you get compared to the cost of living down there can be amazing! Especially if you are in the medical or tech field.
Housing - New housing is going up everywhere! You can buy a new home really cheap compared to other locations I have lived.
Personally I preferred the Northeast area of San Antonio (Cibolo/Schertz/Converse) then other areas of San Antonio, but the Northwest area (North of 35) would have you closer to gaming in San Antonio.
Do a Google search for San Antonio pathfinder society and you should find their warhorn and Obsidian Portal page. If you want to join the Obsidian Portal page should me a PM, I am still in control of the invites for that page. They also have a Facebook page.
