5e Adventurers League Interest Check

Recruitment

I'm thinking of starting to do some AL games via PBP. I'm looking to see what kind of interest there is, and what level and/or adventurers league modules you would like to play in.

Please list your characters' levels and what modules you have an interest in playing. If we get enough interest, I'll buy the modules people are interested in and start running them here on Paizo.

I am interested, and I have Sir Adrian (3rd Level Paladin) that has already completed Defiance in Phlan and The Courting of Fire. I just completed Defiance in Phlan, and I need to level his profile to 3rd, having just attained it.

Ive been looking at the adventurers league and would love to get into it. Is it as easy as creating a character for normal play by post or should i register somewhere official?

Dark Archive

I've got a level 3(level 4?) character I had when I used to play. Also some other peeps that are made for level 1.

You can get a DCI Number here, but it's not required to create a character and play. You just need it by the end of the first game.

For character creation, use point buy, feats are allowed, and use the PHB. You get one additional supplement book of your choice.

Use the most recent AL season for rules. You can find the AL Players Guide here.

You can use this profile as an example for setting up an AL character and tracking your games.

I'm interested in general, but my hobby time is feeling a little crunched at the moment, so I'm not sure I could get into a game right now. Possibly the next time around, though.

Alright, thanks! In that case I'm definitely interested.

I'd definitely be interested. I have one Adventurers League character but I'm not sure how legal he'd be... he played in a Lost Mine of Phandelver Pbp that never reached the end and I haven't got a log sheet or if I did I never recorded it?

I'd happily roll a a first level character though and play any module you'd like to run!

I think it will be better to make a fresh character. Without a log sheet to track what items you've acquired, it gets into shaky territory.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It won't take much effort to bust my Dwarf cleric back down to 1st level but I'll also make a couple of other characters as well. I'd really like to play a Battle Master Fighter or a Wizard and haven't had the opportunity yet.
(I mainly GM)

I took a long break on PBP because I needed it and because I could not keep it, but I'm well rested now, though it may be slow, I can handle it if I only do one. That being said, I would like to do a book, lost mines, hoard of the dragon queen, elemental evil, storm kings thunder, curse of strahd etc. Lost mines I have done several times but am not unapposed to doing it again. And by doing a book we all start at level 1.

I have other characters, but would not want to do a module, because to do just one is ridiculous, you are here for only 4 to 8 weeks to accomplish just two hours. And I want to do only one thing, thus modules I would have to do several of, so I'll want to make it worthwile.

At first, I was all like "Hey I could learn how to play 5e here!" then I saw it was basically 5e PFS and I was all "Aww... Not going to be able to play." :(

If you want to use this to learn how to play 5e, you are more than welcome. I've taught others how to play 5e via PBP games before, and the difference between AL and non-AL games are very minimal.

The most notable differences are in AL games, feats are allowed (non-AL games they're optional), you have to track a log sheet (provided by the DM), and you're limited to the PHB plus one supplement book of your choice (ownership not required).

The supplement choices are: Sword Coast Adventurers Guide, Elemental Evil Players Guide (available for free), and Volo's Guide to Monsters (restricted use, see here for how it can be used).

There may be other supplements that I'm not aware of. While you don't need to own any books, there are no books available on PDF, so you'll have to find a hard copy. Either purchase, or borrow a friend's, or visit a library. The exception is a limited use PHB, which has all the rules necessary to play, but restricted character options. This document can be found here.

There are also several differences between AL and PFS. In PFS, you must belong to a faction, in AL it is optional. In PFS, everyone can purchase the equipment presented in the adventure, in AL the PCs must choose who gets what (like a home game). For example, if there is a magic wand, in PFS everyone can buy it at the end of the adventure if they have the money. In AL, it doesn't cost anything, but there is only one and the players have to decide who gets it. If there is a disagreement, then it goes to the player with the fewest magic items.

There's also lots of little differences between 5e and PF, which we can discuss if you're still interested in playing.

Modules only. I want to run a series of shorter modules, each as their own game. I do not want to run a campaign.

If you're interested in a campaign, there are other 5e games available right now.

Since most of my games have ended or gone into a hiatus, I'm interested in playing a bit for fun.

I'd need to create a new character from scrap, though, as I have no AL ones. My question is: how would different level characters combine, if some of us are playing from lvl 1 and others have already lvl 3 chars?

About the books, I think I haven't tried any, so... bring'em on! :)

I edited my post two up to discuss supplement books with links.

Characters of different levels seem to mix rather fine. The AL games where I've been a player have worked out well. 5e has a design philosophy called "bounded accuracy" where the numbers to hit and AC are all a lot smaller than PF. This means that PCs of mixed levels tend to not outshine each other in significant ways.

Still, AL adventures are limited in level range to 1-4, 5-10, and 11-15.

Would you encourage belonging to a faction? Does it add a lot, and would I be missing out if I chose not to belong to any?

Ive made an Adventure League character using your profile as example. Rosco currently doesn't belong to a faction yet.. but I was wondering, if you'd like to take a look at the character and see what faction would suit him best?

You need to edit your link. In the first Url bracket, go like this: [Url=""] the with link between the quotes. Then type some text, then close the Url tag with a /.

Paizo provides examples below the text box on this page, in the spoiler.

You need to declare which supplement you're using on your sheet.

As for factions, they are not required. There is no penalty for not being in one, but there are benefits for being in one. See the AL Players Guide (linked earlier in this thread). For your character, I feel like the Lords Alliance would suit best.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Seeing that there's enough interest for a game, I've opened up our first AL adventure!

Where is it?
