Mesmerist Tricks and multiple allies

Reading the rules for using mesmerist tricks and not sure how to interpret this line, " he can only have one trick implanted at a given time". Does this refer to having one trick at a time per ally, or just only one, period? I think what's throwing me off is the "a creature can only be the subject of one mesmerist trick at a time". I had my mesmerist implant psychosomatic surge on his three allies before entering a dungeon.

Grand Lodge

At levels 1-4, you can only have 1 trick active (implanted) at any time, period. So you can't put it on three allies if you have three uses per day.

At level 5, you get Manifold Tricks, which allow you to have more tricks active simultaneously. (Spread out over multiple characters.)

the mesmerist mask will give you one more trick per day and one more in play.

I plan on making some mah jong tile like things to keep track for my kitsune mesmerist when it becomes relevant.

Also I find the idea of a kitsune mesmerist with a kitsune mask to be hillarious.

The price makes it level 10+ on average though. :(
