That assumes that laser weapons are going to be super lethal. Who says they won't just be doing 1d6 damage per shot or something?

Long and short of it? that would be massively disappointing.

"Here is an 8th generation laser rifle, it has a range increment of 100' and deals 2D6 damage."

"Here is a composite longbow, it has a range increment of 120' and deals 1D8+4str mod damage"

guess which one i am going to use?

"Also? What tool spent 3,000 years to build a crappier composite longbow?"

Unless of course they have some handwavium side bar about how bows really only do 1D4 damage and cant hurt people with space armor on ever.

We could go for Rifts style MegaDamage.

Also, there can be greater research into ceramics and kevlar armor, bringing armor back into the front for melee people.

And for ranged people. Just because someone has a gun doesn't mean that they want to be shot by one.

well, there were several weapon supplements in the past that gave better damage dice for various weapons. Damage die is just one part of modeling firearm combat for d20/Pathfinder system.
Rate of fire, reload time vs different systems (powder, paper charges, cartridges, clips...).
Ranges and range modifiers, cover, concealment, etc all vs the ranged touch attacks.
Physical factors such as barrel length, heating, explosives/powder mixes, bullet shapes and casings, etc...
it gets complicated especially as the d20 system is rather rough so a lot gets glossed over and doesn't make much difference in the end.
Armors and such have and will continue to be a touchy subject due to the uniqueness of DR/Hardness, non-ablative, never need to repair nature of items in d20/pathfinder model.

Aftermath!(1981)
GURPS {historical sourcebooks, High-Tech, Ultra-Tech, Shell-Tech} (circa 1991)
Spycraft (2002, 2.0 2005)

=====

combat dynamics change with the introduction of guns. Death becomes much easier and at range, without a lot of need skill with the weapon. Anyone with a gun is deadly, only highly trained people with a rapier are consistently deadly when up close...

I would imagine that Starfinder will have to address this issue, as it is basically a "guns everywhere" setting.

It's a "lasers everywhere" setting. That's way beyond "flintlocks everywhere", which is really what the OP is proposing.

Flintlocks or colts and winchesters?
