Video for the new Nintendo Switch Console and portable - looks interesting.

Agreed, though I am cautious as I still rather bitterly recall what happened the last time third parties pledged support for Nintendo's newest console (hint: it was the Wii U).

Nintendo should get a lot of traction from the NES Classic.

I like it and wish it well.

I'm looking forward to making the Switch!

Really, the only Nintendo franchises I care about are Zelda and Metroid. Breath of the Wild is apparently going to be in the WiiU, so I'll just go with that version. And Metroid is apparently best left to fan-games these days (AM2R is amazing). So, it will be a long time before I get this, assuming I EVER get it.

It looks interesting, but not $299 or more type interesting.

Maybe a $99 or less type interesting to me...at this time.

If it had backwards compatibility (it doesn't), that might raise some of my interest.

Right now, however, it has some interesting ideas, but nothing that I would spend a lot of money to obtain or utilize.

I haven't really been interested in Nintendo for awhile. It seems like most of the great games to come out on their console are all first party, but they aren't released quickly enough for me to bother getting a new console over. I did get the Wii and I spent some of my most enjoyed gaming hours on that system playing Wii Sports and some other stuff, but that has been more than a few years ago.

Given the history of 3rd party support, I question how much this might be favored, but it is a little different than the past few systems. I'm not savvy enough about tech to know if the difference between a disc and a cartridge will turn some game companies away though.

If it gets some support and decent games for it other than the normal Nintendo franchises I might happily pick this up. I am someone that immensely enjoys playing games face to face though, which is probably an oddity in this day and age. Not too worried about backwards compatibility if I can grab some old goodies through a Virtual Console interface.

$300 might be a little much, but I would probably part with that much should it get the support.

*shrug* What can an old Nintendo fan do but say a prayer and hope Nintendo becomes more relevant in the "console wars".

Scarab Sages

If I buy one, it'll mostly be for my kids. Lucky for me, with the console coming out in March, I get to wait until next Christmas to decided whether or not to buy. That should give me time to see whether it sucks balls or not.

How the heck can you even say $99 with a straight face for a console? The 3DS is more expensive by almost double and games are running $60 a pop. It makes it hard to respect your opinion if you are going to just spout nonsense.

It looks cool to me, but I agree the problem is going to be the library.

Nintendo needs to try and, at least, rebuild the impressive stable of "2nd party" developers (like Rare) that they used to have.

...Wonder if they've considered making a contract with Playtonic?

Because I already have multiple tablets that do almost the same thing, including being able to hook it up to a TV with an HDMI converter.

And I can buy a tablet that does most of I see the switch advertising for under $99, plus be able to do word editing, book reading, and a whole lot more than that switch will probably be able to do.

Even if I got an Ipad, with the ones going for $299 I'd be able to do a LOT more than what I saw the switch doing.

The advantage of the PC, PS4, and Xbox One is that they have MORE power than anything my tablets possess, my several magnitudes and can reflect it in the actual games.

I'll bet upon release the Switch will have less games available than the Tablet, and at least with Android, I'd probably have access to more old console games than the Switch will have games available...and then you toss in current tablet games....

Yeah...$99 of interest in it from what I've seen and what will be released for the switch is about right currently.

It has a neat concept, but not $299 worth of neat concept that I would never use since I already have a portable device of that size that has more games and does more than what it appears the Switch will do.

You have a tablet powerful enough to play Skyrim? With an HD texture update?

Where'd you buy that sucker?

I don't play Skyrim on a pure tablet, I don't play it at all. If I did I'd play it on a playstation.

I don't think the switch is in any way, in any form, even comparable to a PS4 in power.

OR, I picked up a Win 10 two in one for $159, upgraded with a (USB 3.0 so it's actually pretty fast access) 128 GB mini sd card (since it was only 32 GB with a 2.2 GHZ dual processor and 2 GB ram). It was used (don't know how old it actually is), so it probably had the Win10 as an upgrade and came with another OS when it was bought new, but it acts as a Tablet or PC if I wanted and is only 11 inches.

Plays just about any PC game that's older than 2-3 years of age (for example, would not run No man's sky, but I think I'm not the only one in that, and it's not my main gaming PC).

I don't use the highest textures on the PC. On the otherhand I'm pretty certain the PC is going to have a bucket more mods than that switch will have (didn't know they'd have skyrim on it, even then...that doesn't really improve it's usefulness to me at all).

It also has Word and MS office on it, as well as open office, and a bunch of movies. Has access to internet for streaming movies if I wish and a bunch of older PC games.

I have a 3ds, the largest one they have, and that actually fits into my pocket.

If the switch did that, it actually be more valuable to me. If it were more transportable than it looks...maybe...but it looks to be about the size of a tablet, and I already have a Tablet or two.

PS: Ah, for your answer on where to buy something like that, look to Ebay.

So what you're saying is, it doesn't do the thing I asked you about.

I'm also interested to know where you got the specs for the Switch from, since you seem to know them.

We all have different opinions.

Right now, as I said, the switch has an interesting premise, but not a $299 interesting premise for me.

It may for you and that's good, but for me, it's not something I'd be willing to really get for anything over $99 right now.

If you wish to get it, that's great for you. Not everyone has to share the same interest level.

Game platforms are only as good as the games that come out for them.
