Part of my playtest group is unavailable this week and I want to run a game for them, letting them have some fun flexing new characters while seeing how those variants perform against published material.
So here I am seeking semi-urgent advice. What do you feel are the best stand-alone adventures for a one-shot at level 2? A bit of roleplay/story is good, but nothing that requires prior involvement.

Might I recommend Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven. I think it is great, but I am biased (I wrote it and published it).
It fits everything you asked:
- 2nd level
- stand alone/no prior involvement
- designed for a one-shot

I had a lot of fun playing Murder's Mark, but some find GMing it a challenge because of how many things are going on at the same time.

Can you summarize this 'so many things going on at the same time' point you've made? Place in a spoiler tag if you feel it's needed for the sake of other readers of this thread.

As a player I don't know a lot of the details, but here are some things that can cause problems.
- It is a murder mystery with events triggering off other things. You need to understand how the things link together.
- The end battles are in three dimensions as you can see from slides 6 & 7 and you need a way for the players to understand how they connect.
- In the end battles, certain NPCs can alert other NPCs which makes the battles more challenging. In the manor, one tries to lock the PCs in and then runs to alert everyone. In the warehouse, there are some that go grab the boss when battle breaks out. Those are two I was told about -- our group avoided both of those because of how we did things.
- If you want to flesh out the story a bit more, you will most likely end up adding NPCs.

I've GMed Murder's Mark twice (once for Stali) and I love it! It's a fun murder mystery with a lot going on -- a crazy carnival, a series of murders, lots of detective work and two very cool 3-d maps with battles happening on multiple floors, through secret doors, etc.
I found it very rewarding, and my players have loved it too.
