I have a player showing up to join our game tonight (I'm the GM) who asked me if I could build a lvl 5 Drow Dragonrider (Red Dragon) for her so that she can jump in right away. I agreed, but the class has me a bit frazzled: I have no idea how to properly build this. The class can seemingly do everything, though I know that's not inherently true.
I feel like I should focus on dex primarily, with int second? Would they need mounted combat and the various mounted combat feats if their focus makes attacking from the mount a secondary thought? IS attacking from the mount a secondary thought? What are the basic tactics for a Dragonrider in combat? >_<
As you can see, I'm in a bit of a tizzy, and the time pressure isn't helping. Any help here wold be much appreciated!
Thank you!

*DISCLAIMER: I really like the Dragonrider class, and have researched it on many forums to get a feel for their power level, I just haven't built one before.

I know this is later but hopefully it can still help. There are basically three ways you can go with the supermount.
1) Melee charge build. With this one you're just grabbing a lance, power attack, spirited charge, and mounted skirmisher to lance pounce along with your dragon's melee routine. Though if you're willing to sacrifice spells this build could multiclass into cavalier without losing any dragon scaling if you take the boon companion feat.
2) Mobile tank grab a longbow with all the normal archery feats and mounted archery.
3) Use your spells and feats exclusively to buff the dragon. Get high charisma for bonus spells boost your ride check as high as possible and take the follow feats for your dragon's sake. Mounted Combat, Trick Riding, Indomitable Mount, and evolved companion. Your spells should include shield, mage armor, and magic fang at a minimum.
3 can be combined with 1 and 2 to a degree though it leaves you a bit feat starved.
