Aquatic Eidolons and Unchained Summoners

Rules Questions

Having decided to create an Undine Summoner, and seeing that the favored class option in the Advanced Race Guide requires them to have an aquatic form for their eidolons, I was curious as to how that was possible for the Summoner class from Pathfinder Unchained. Is it compatible?

It's not compatible without some GM house-ruling.

Seriously? Why not? Seems like a heck of an oversight.

Unchained Eidolons don't have the aquatic form, that's all.

From the book, out of luck. With a GM open to a bit of houseruling it should be fine, the different form can easily be balanced with the other unchained options and assigned to appropriate subtypes. But that is absolutely houserules.

I'd just say that the water elemental eidolon counts for the favored class bonus

*adds another chain to the list of chains on the Unchained summoner*

"Only.. one option.. for Undine..."

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unchained eidolon oversights. Here's another glaring one: Agathions, the beast outsider type, can't get a few evolutions which are very beast themed such as Trip and Mount.

Basically, you have to either houserule or resign yourself to being incredibly restricted about designing your eidolons.

Honestly I think that was the point for the Unchained Summoner, everything is locked down there. Possibly too much, other than the spell list.

Ripping a huge draw from the flavor of the class and gutting it's mechanical options was a terrible idea. Paizo nerfs as poorly as Blizzard.

Oh no, I agree. The spell list was a bit wonky, and eidolons could have used a little limitation, but damn. At least outside of PFS it doesn't matter.

Considering that was where I was intending to play the character...

Opinions vary.

Technically, there is no rule/FAQ prohibiting the eidolon options in Ultimate Magic from being used with an Unchained summoner. Other than the spell list being comprehensive (including spells from all the books up to that point), only the class details from the APG were revised; even the archetypes are compatible.
