Arcanist, Inteligence scores, and Bonus Spells.

Rules Questions

Can anyone tell me if I can get extra spell slots for my Arcanist if I have a high Intelligence? I'm a bit confuzzeled about how an Arcanist does spells. :(

You get additional spell slots for casting if you have high Intelligence, but spells prepared per day does not get modified by ability scores.

"An arcanist can only cast a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given in the table above. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Intelligence score."

and

"Unlike the number of spells she can cast per day, the number of spells an arcanist can prepare each day is not affected by her Intelligence score."

Let's say that you are a 4th level Arcanist with an 18 Int. Each morning you can prepare three 1st level spells and one 2nd level spell. You don't get to prepare any extra spells because of your high Int. (I'm ignoring cantrips since they work the same as for a Wizard or Sorcerer.)

That day you can cast four 1st level spells and two 2nd level spells due to your level, and your high Int gets you an extra 1st level and an extra 2nd level. So you can cast a total of five 1st level and three 2nd level.

You can only cast spells that you prepared that day, but unlike a Wizard you don't forget them after casting. So you can cast them again so long as you have spell per day left.

Edit: Ninja'd.

You're essentially a sorcerer who uses Int for his casting stat, but you have the ability to change your effective "spells known" each day.

Thanks everyone. Rock on. :D
