Frenzy / Calm Spells?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Curious if anywhere in official material it Pathfinder has any spells that let you change a creatures attitude so drastically it either puts away it's weapon and acts neutral/friendly, or goes berserk attacking friends and enemies alike, aka the Calm and Frenzy spells in Skyrim.

Not from attitude (diplomacy type) changes, but plenty that do it through direct Enchantment (Compulsion) effects.

Calm Emotions will give you the Calm spell effects.

Murderous Command replicates the Frenzy effects of getting people to attack, but not nearly as long as you'd like, I imagine.

In addition to the obvious ones above:

Suggestion/Mass Suggestion can accomplish the first.

Dominate can accomplish both.

Serenity is kinda like Calm, in a roundabout way (it basically magically backhands them whenever they try to hurt someone).

Vengeful Outrage makes a solid single target Frenzy, though in a similar roundabout way to the above.

Crime Wave is a hilarious new spell that's the closest thing to proper Frenzy you can get. It's like the ridiculous AoE versions you could craft in Oblivion. There's also a version that permanently screws somebody up.

Euphoric Tranquility is likewise the best Calm variant in the game, just about.

Mantle of Calm deserves mention as the worst spell in the entire game.

I'd hardly call that the worst spell in the game, it'd be INCREDIBLY useful against enemy Barbarians.

If you can't think of a better spell to prepare I feel bad for you, son, I've got 99 spells on my list, but a Mantle of Calm ain't one.

Yeah, that's pretty cool actually.
That spell turns barbarians into fighters with more skill points but no bonus feats.

If you're on a crusade against a barbaric nation, maybe, but if your plan is to be surrounded by enough Barbarians that the rd/level duration, -2 to your own attacks, and chance they make the save outweighs your other spell options I think you need a better plan.

I'm just really bitter that this is a bonus spell for the Tranquility discipline Psychic, who never has any business being in melee or wasting a spellcasting action on this.

Silver Crusade

It's absolutely perfect for something called Tranquility I think.

The fact that Barbarian's don't get to add and Rage based bonuses vs it makes it even more likely that they'll fail.

Dunno about you but as a caster I'd rather not even be IN melee range of a Barbarian much less cast a spell that requires one to ACTUALLY HIT ME to work. And then still requires a save after.

As the classes that can get that spell I'd much rather cast one that makes it harder to hit me in the first place.

If your in a fight with a Barbarian is gonna try to hit you whether you like it or not :3

It comes down to preference I suppose, you can buff yourself or seriously debuff your enemy in retaliation for hitting you.
