Mascot in Familiar Folio: not easy to Aid Another ?

Hi everyone,

When I check the Mascot archetype, I find:
"Lucky Mascot (Su): Whenever a mascot uses the aid another action to aid a team member’s attack roll or AC..."

But wait, Aid Another says "If you're in position to make a melee attack on an opponent...". I can't remember a common familiar with a reach of 5 ft. Does it means our lovely Mascot has to enter the same tile with the bad buddy (so provoke an AoO) before use this ability?

Small familiars have five-foot reach, and there are ways to get it. But otherwise, yeah.

There are any number of spells that can be cast on the familiar because of Share Spell which could enhance the creature's reach.
Long Arm is probably the most straightforward.
