Named bullet optimization

Advice

I'm thinking about building an Eldritch archer magus who focuses on the named bullet spell (we're starting at a high enough level to get it from the spell blending arcana). My question is how would you go about optimizing it?

I'm thinking about a one big hit build that would get as much damage behind the first shot of of a spell combat. Guns are out of the question so I'll probably go longbow for the x3 crit multiplier.

Well, you want to be good at spell penetration for a start; the spell depends on penetrating SR. An elf looks like a good start and you might get the Spell Penetration feat as well.

What actual level are you starting at?

11. I figured I'd take extra arcana to make it work.

I'm also not tied to the magus. I just want to figure out the best way (sans guns) to make the most out of the spell.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Elven Eldritch Archer 10/Spellsinger Wizard 1.

Arcane Gun will give spells fired through your gun a x3 modifier rather than a x2. From there you can go a standard Shocking Grasp magus using the Reach Metamagic.

For extra cheese you can take a level dip of Crossblooded Draconic/Orc Sorcerer. Throw in Blooded Havok from the Magic Tactics Toolbox and you'll be sure to get some nasty glares!

EDIT: Oh, no guns? Fine. Trade the Spellslinger level for the Sorcerer level.

Magus does have the advantage that you can use spell combat to cast the spell as required. It's not a bad call. And due to limited spell slots I'd stick with magus 11, improved spell recall is going to be useful.

It's possible to make quickened true strike a 3rd level spell with the right traits if you really want to hit - named bullet only gives a touch attack within 30'.

If you can cast named bullet in advance then snowball is the spell you use with spell combat, not shocking grasp.
