Warding Armor special ability for inquisitors

Rules Questions

Just wanted to doublecheck that I'm reading this thing right.

Quote:
Once per day as an immediate action, the wearer of warding armor can activate it to end all active challenge, judgment, and smite abilities affecting her. This does not prevent opponents from selecting her as a target for these abilities in the future. As a swift action, the wearer can expend one of her own challenge, judgment, or smite abilities to refresh the armor's ability to end these attacks.

Thing is, enemies aren't affected by judgement effects - the inquisitor is. So all the Warding special ability does is end any judgements you use on yourself, right?

You could also use it to end challenges and smite abilities affecting you.

But yes, you are right that Judgment isn't actually affected the way its written because Judgments affect the Inquisitor not the target.

I think the idea was that it should allow you to be unaffected by the bonuses an Inquisitor receives from Judgment, but its poorly written.

Yeah, of course it's still useful against antipaladins or cavaliers. I just wanted to double check that I was parsing the bit about inquisitors correctly.

It shouldn't be hard to convince a DM that it should either exempt you from the effects of the judgement, or end the enemy judgement entirely, but you gotta know what the rules are before you can houserule it, you know?

I agree that you are parsing the bit about Inquisitors correctly, in that the way its worded doesn't work to coincide with its likely purpose.

I will say however, if you house rule I really don't think it should end the Inquisitors entire Judgment (since many of the Judgments in no way affect an opponent at all such Healing, Protection and Purity (maybe depending on how you look at it), Resiliency, and Resistance.

The way I would run it would simply be that for any interaction between the creature that used Warding and the Inquisitor you would simply act as though the Inquisitor did not have Judgment active. So even the AC bonus that is applied to the Inquisitor with Protection wouldn't apply against the creatures attack, nor Purity apply the saving throw bonus and more obviously Justice and Destruction wouldn't apply their damage and attack roll bonuses against the warded creature. But it would still apply to everyone else.
