Liberty's Edge

Hello new GM here. So I have been trying to figure out if a non-animal companion class (such as a Dragoon) can mount creatures that are in the special creatures section or in the magical beast section without the Monstrous Mount feat. Do they need to be combat trained to do so? Is the non-animal companion class required to multiclass into a class that has an animal companion class feature (such as a druid)?

The feat has nothing to do with being able to mount these creatures, only allows them to take one as an animal companion. Anyone with a ride check can ride anything that is trained as a mount. They better just have a means of controlling the thing so it doesnt eat them.
