Cutlass vs. Scimitar?

Is it my imagination, or are cutlasses and scimitars essentially identical, statwise?

Yup, exact same. Just different aesthetics.

Yep. Barring some feats that require scimitars.

Scimitar has some more support from feats and more classes/archetypes gives proficency for it, but if you are just looking for an 18-20 one handed martial weapon, then they are the exact same.

The cutlass makes a throaty bonk bonk bonk in use whereas the scimitar is more a schunk schunk schunk sorta deal.

Also don't forget that the Cutlass is in the Pirate Weapon Fighter Group...
Y'know in case that comes up.

...actually, that might be relevant now. Advanced weapon training highly encourages you to stick with one group and use everything else for abilities. That arhcetype doesn't remove weapon training, and just adds another group as an option, so it should qualify for AWT.

Of course, the only immediate advantage I see to the weapon group is that it has a ranged weapon and throwing weapon as options. Whether you can take advantage of the crossbow is another matter entirely, of course.

Well then, glad that its more useful compared to first glance.
I mean.
Yarrrrrrr!
