I'm currently running a high level PFS scenario featuring an Ice Devil. Midway through the fight, I found myself thinking 'didn't these things used to be a lot scarier?' Curious, I looked up the old 3.5 stat block.
I was surprised to find that, as monsters go, the noble Gelugon didn't get a straight upgrade coming into Pathfinder.
Pathfinder Buffs
natural fly speed
14 extra hit points
+4 initiative
spear bumped to +1 icy
Pathfinder Nerfs
-3 will saves
-1 spell resistance
lost unholy aura as an at-will SLA
-4 armor class (via losing unholy aura)
I thought it was strange. I'd always heard that monsters got harder in Pathfinder but never bothered to really look at the numbers. I'm sure you could argue that gaining a natural fly speed and initiative bump is a net gain but what they lost was significant. Between the will save nerf and losing unholy aura as an SLA they lost +15 to their saves. That's huge!
Are there any other classic monsters that took major hits in the Pathfinder transition?

Considering that fly speed gives you pretty much immunity to attacks from non-archery martial classes, I'd say it's a pretty big deal.
Compared to 3.5, Pathfinder dragons all have CR much more in line with their stats - 3.5 dragons were deliberately under-CR'd by designers to make them more challenging.
