Whisperer of Souls

Shelyn bears the glaive gifted to her half brother called the Whisperer of Souls. The weapon was crafted by the former god of smiths, who fell during the same murderous spree that claimed Shelyn's mother. When he received it, the weapon corrupted Zon-Kuthon and convinced him to go to war against the other deities. It was during this war that Shelyn lost her mother and became goddess of love. When created, Whisperer of Souls was given the ability to absorb souls (hence its name) and once it absorbs 100 powerful souls (not just anybody's soul will do) it will become a god in its own right and bring about an era of murder and death. When Zon-Kuthon received the weapon it held no souls; by the time Shelyn stole Whisperer of Souls it had almost all it needed. In the time since, Shelyn has been able to free most of those souls thanks to the help of Nethys and brave adventurers (a grand quest of goodness must be performed to release a soul). Much to the frustration of Whisperer of Souls, it cannot seem to corrupt Shelyn or influence her in any way (earning her the title "the Incorruptible"). Quite the opposite, in fact: when Shelyn first stole the weapon it was a nightmarish and hideous piece of craftsmanship, but in the millennia since, Shelyn has remade it into a beautiful piece of art. It still bears a few ugly remnants, but they become less pronounced with each soul she releases.

Anyone know what book this is in? I seem to only able to find it on PathfinderWiki. They don't even know where it's from, so I wonder if you guys do.

Huh.

Most of that info, I had not previously read. Which leads me to suspect it is from the 3.5 sourcebook Gods & Magic, and may therefor no longer be canon. I know that neither Shelyn's original personal Diety write-up in Pathfinder #50, or the reprint in Inner Sea Gods have corroborating information & in fact I believe that they both state that ZK brought Whisperer of Souls back with him from the Outer Dark & both indicate that that is where he found it.

Not from Gods and Magic, either. I suspect it may be self-evident wisdom*; we found some of that on the Cernunnos page earlier today as well.

*totally made up, with no actual source

Artifacts book maybe? I do recall reading that text in a product, but i forget which one.

Artifacts and Legends and Skeletons of Scarwall both turn up no hits.

This was on the page 11 March 2008 when we transferred the databases, meaning I'm not able to locate whom added this information, but it was prior to this date, so from a very early book. Mark Moreland might know, as he was a heavy wiki editor during this time. (hoping mentioning his name will summon him...)

Oh I found it: A lot of the early information was taken from a Mike McArtor messageboard post from July 3, 2007. This was when he was a higher level editor, but is at the lowest level of canon, as it has not been in a published book yet.

Wow. Yeah, a decent amount of Mr. McArtor's post actually contradicts canon now.

I see. Thank you for the information, Cpt_kirstov! ^_^

If I have time after I get home today, I'm going to update the wiki with citation links to the post. (If anyone gets to it first, feel free to)

You're not going to find stats on it,because it's not a mere Artifact, but the favored weapon of a God ,which by nature is statless. The text on it is all story... no mechanics.

I'm amused that the thing amounts to Pathfinder apocrypha.

It also contradicts what I believe the actual order of events was. I thought Shelyn's mother died before any of those things happened and gave Shelyn the power over love, and that was what drove then Dou-Bral away, because he was envious.

I would love to see an AP built as one of the quests to free a soul from the weapon. Or even better, take PCs at the end of an AP into an encounter with Shelyn where she tells them that their deeds have already freed a soul from the weapon, and that she has another quest for them to free more. An AP that starts at level 20?! I'm sure it'll never happen but that would be so cool!
