A complaint about the feat flow

Homebrew and House Rules

So, I'm in a group, and one of the houserules makes it so that instead of getting feats at odd levels, we only get feats at 1/5/10/15/20... I think that's a bit mean...

Ups the fighter class' stock quite a bit though

Actually, it makes spellcasters more valuable.

As long as non-fighters have access to their own 'feats' (Rage Powers, rogue talents, etc) or spells, all it does is punish the very feat-reliant fighter more.

Remember, he ONLY gets his defensive feats from general feats. Combat feats simply don't compare to things like Rage Powers, for instance.

And the Brawler, who can go feat fishing on command, likely won't even notice it.

I have a feeling it at least throws off the rather delicate game balance.

Why is that houserule in place? Many classes and feat trees are balanced by how many feats you have access to, and removing 5 feats from every character really throws off the balance of the game.

Why not play 3rd edition then... oh right, you'd STILL get more feats. :-)

Doesn't make sense to me.

Why? I'm serious, why did anybody feel like they'd need to give out less feats? I can see no advantages, at all.

Simpler character sheet? Less time spent faffing about over what feat to get when you level up? Pretty stupid either way.

Wow this just sounds mean.

The only way that this makes sense is if it's combined with several house rules that give feats automatically (like power attach, combat expertise, weapon finesse, etc.), or removes feat pre-reqs, and combines feats and feat chains into single feats. (Like I have done for my house rules.)

If that is the only house rule, then it is really harsh and unbalancing.
