So lets say I grab masterwork full plate at level 1. Clearly the rules say nothing about it being a special material (mithral etc) so i'm assuming what i get is normal steel. (That isnt the question, i'm getting to the question.)
Question: At later levels when everyone else is gearing up in magic adamantine full plate of magic fartery, am I stuck with my measily steel armor if I want to cast my spells?
(PS- Yes, i know I can enchant it, what i'm wondering is can I replace the metal plates / magically replace or alter the metal type?)
Note: Looking for a definitive answer, preferably a ruling for PFS, not "If I were GM, i'd allow it."

it's not as bad as you think. The only material you'd maybe use is mithral. And even then I don't see it since it's so expensive and delays your AC increases so much. So most the time if I see full-plate it's just normal steel and a dex 12.
Agreed, its just nagging at the perfectionist side of me. the only real difference would be the DR from adamantine.
PS: Just me being lazy here, but does a 15th level barbarian (with dr) gain any benefit from wearing adamantine armor over normal steel?

You could definitely transmute it with a wish or miracle if you really wanted. Dunno if you'll have much luck pursuing that option in PFS, though.
But DR 3/- at mid-to-high levels isn't as impressive as it seems anyway. You're better off putting the money towards another +1 AC.
Re your postscript: No, because DR only stacks when something says it does (like the armor master fighter archetype).

Nice. Thanks!

Not that you asked, but here is the recent thread that convinced me that the DR is not worth the price.
