Half-elf Drow and Cavern Sniper

Advice

So today is yet another day of boredom for me and I decided to go back to a build I've thought on before but never really looked closely at it. As a player I tend to favor gishes and other casters that can potentially pull their weight in the thick of a melee, but everyone once-in-a-while something from one of the less magical classes catches my eye, in this case the Cavern Sniper fighter archetype and the Half-Drow Paragon feat. What I want to know is can I create an effective Cavern Sniper that is also a Half-elf or should I just save some time and effort and just create a normal drow version?

what are gishes?

I mean, you probably could, but I think going a full-blooded drow would be better if only because you're paying a Feat Tax to realize the concept as a half-elf. A thing you might do is ask your GM if you could just have those spell-like abilities work as a pre-req without needing the Half-Drow Paragon feat.

One of the things I'd do for the build is grab the Drow Nobility feats. That way you can drop globes of darkness everywhere for as long as you want to.

Though it should be noted that there are some alternate racial traits for half-elves in Blood of Shadows that might help you pull the build off as a half-elf. Specifically this one:

Blood of Shadows wrote:
Drow Heritage: Half-elves with this trait count as drow for the purposes of any effect related to race, including prerequisites. This racial trait replaces the ability to choose any language as a bonus language, instead limiting the character to the bonus languages offered to drow.

Gishes are classes and builds in which one can sling spells and wade into the thick of a fight. The Eldritch Knight is a great example, even if a little lackluster. Another would be the Magus.

Is that only in the Blood of Shadows book? I don't seem to be able to find it on the PFSRD or the Archives of Nethys. And yes, I very much intend to try out the Noble feats for the Cavern Sniper.

Yeah, Drow Heritage is only in Blood of Shadows at the moment, 'cause Nethys hasn't updated for almost two months. It's definitely an option to pair with things like Drow-blooded from ARG and Thinblood Resilience from Bastards of Golarion.

Good to know, may have to buy this book and see what other goodies are hidden within.
