Phantoms and weapons.

So the Spiritualists phantom description says they can't use weapons but can use magic items.
Does that mean that even if I give one a weapon proficiency it can't use one?

My understanding is that they can't use weapon or armor, but can use magic items for other slots (like rings). They do specify that if your phantom has a magic item in the same slot as your character, then only one of the items will function, with priority going to the character.

Could be wrong, I find most of the Occult Adventurer classes to be rather confusing with RAW.

yeah. i find the wording about weapons odd.

Like, they can pick up and use a magic rod, censer or what have you but can't even pick up and swing a thick stick (club)?
