Permanent Silence

Homebrew and House Rules

So I am building an assassin that's going try to assassinate the party for a game I am running. If they don't kill him at first then he is going be a recurring character. Anyway hes going cast silence on himself and fight everyone while they can't do anything to warn everyone else, or even cat there own spells.

Anyway my question two questions are this:

1) How much should I set the cost and lvl for making the spell Silence permanent (I feel like a player is going try this once they fight the assassin)

2) Any ideas for how to set up a mute curse for a oracle, I have the following so far (only up to level 5 so far):

The oracle is mute and can't talk or make any sounds originating from the mouth/vocal chords. He can still stomp and make sounds like that to warn others. All spells the oracle cast are under the effects of the Silent Spell, though the casting time and level aren't modified.

At 5th level you gain the effects of the Bonded Mind teamwork feat even if your allies don't have it.

1) Don't make it permanent. Just use an oil of silence (potion of silence, but since it goes on the outside instead of drank it's an oil). Just say that he has custom made oils that have a high caster level so they last longer.

I thought that oil only worked on firearms and siege weapons?

No, I'm saying make a oil instead of a potion.

Oil of Silence is a specific magic item.

But you can also make a potion (which is really going to be an oil) of the silence spell, and isn't the specific magic item Oil of Silence.

Quote:

A potion is a magic liquid that produces its effect when imbibed. Potions vary incredibly in appearance. Magic oils are similar to potions, except that oils are applied externally rather than imbibed. A potion or oil can be used only once. It can duplicate the effect of a spell of up to 3rd level that has a casting time of less than 1 minute and targets one or more creatures or objects. The price of a potion is equal to the level of the spell × the creator's caster level × 50 gp. If the potion has a material component cost, it is added to the base price and cost to create. Table: Potions gives sample prices for potions created at the lowest possible caster level for each spellcasting class. Note that some spells appear at different levels for different casters. The level of such spells depends on the caster brewing the potion.

Potions are like spells cast upon the imbiber. The character taking the potion doesn't get to make any decisions about the effect—the caster who brewed the potion has already done so. The drinker of a potion is both the effective target and the caster of the effect (though the potion indicates the caster level, the drinker still controls the effect).

Silence is a 2nd level cleric spell and can be made as a potion/oil.

A potion could be drank by a creature and the silence affect would be centered on them.

You could instead make an oil which could be rubbed onto a person (functioning like the potion) or rubbed onto an object which would you to keep the object on your person, but allowing you to ditch it if need be.

Oh THAT oil, I was thinking the wondrous item XD I feel kinda stupid right now.

Anyway I would do it on his chained kamas then I can swing them in 10 foot radius and move the silence spell!

That doesn't actually work.

As long as you are holding the weapon the effect would be centered in your square. While the weapon gives you reach to attack enemies beyond 5ft, it doesn't "exist" in those intervening squares.

You could however apply the oil to rocks and throw them around the battlefield. Or other small innocuous objects.

Just have the oils made with caster level 20 so they last 20 rounds (2 minutes).

From the cleaves. A lot of these do not have a GPV yet.

49: Librarians paperweight: This marble plaque says "Quiet" in common. It has the silence spell cast permanently on it.

It's like sonic invisibility so I would charge 5000GP to put it on an object. What does a marble plaque cost?
