Advice

So recently I've been tinkering with the idea of a dwarf whose all about dwarven history and restoring his species to what they once were. When I found the Skyseeker (or the Sun Seeker if you are using the PFSRD) I knew that that is what my character would be, a dwarf who seeks to find the lost Sky Citadels and eventually reclaim Koldukar and Jormurdun from the hated orcs and duergar. Now, of course, needing to have the orc, goblin, or giant favored enemy class feature means I must take at least a couple of levels in Ranger (unless someone else know a class or archetype that gives favored enemy to those guys and is appropriate for a dwarf). Now from what I've seen from a handful of other threads that if I want to go into the class as soon as possible I could do a Druid/ Ranger hybrid or Cleric/ Ranger hybrid. What do you all recommend for a proper dwarf?

Bump.

What do you mean by a proper dwarf? Is the emphasis on 'being proper' in which case cleric would have to be more traditional (so trapper ranger 1/forgemaster cleric 4 maybe; r2 if you want the combat style but it's not required), or do you just want a solid combat dude? (which opens up many options.)

Well, by proper dwarf I just mean a sort of traditionalist who hates orcs, goblins, and the like, isn't a huge fan of elves, and whose really, and I mean really, into dwarven history. I would say a solid combat dude, just with the fact that he is a dwarf and that he is going to become a Skyseeker (kinda the whole point of this character, really).

Ranger 1/Cleric 4/Skyseeker 10

I am playing a character with this progression in mind in a Giantslayer campaign. I could go into depth on the backstory/RP side of the character if you want, otherwise I'll just say he rocks an earthbreaker and wrecks face. :)

Some people might find it boring, but I rather like playing to an archetype (the literary kind, not the mechanical kind).

Yeah, I'm not saying that's not a solid combat dude, just that it's the most 'proper' option IMO. Which it sounds like you're into. Tho' if history is the character focus you could reasonably replace cleric with shaman with the speaker for the past archetype.

I find it interesting simply from the fact that I haven't played as a dwarf yet and kind of find it fun to literally just play into a stereotype. Mind giving me a few pointers on roleplaying a dwarf? I'm about as far as the gruff traditionalist.

Hm, as to Cleric I'm thinking of him being a worshipper of Dranngvit and nabbing the memory subdomain and the travel domain (because who doesn't want to be a heavy armor using dwarf whose just as fast as the others while lecturing on the awesomeness of the dwarves?).

Honestly I really do like the theme of Speaker of the Past. I don't know how much ancestors are revered by dwarves in Pathfinder, but I know in a lot of other settings their ancestors are a huge part of their culture (looking at you Dragon Age).
