Adding modules and scenarios to the AP [Spoiler alert!]

Hell's Rebels

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So I've been planning on enhancing my game of Hell's Rebels by adding Cheliax-set modules and PFS scenarios in at appropriate points.

This will obviously involve spoilers for the AP and likely for the add-ins as well.

From Shore to Sea:
I'm thinking that this could be a good add-in for the end of the first volume, since there's no time-limit of any sort associated with the events at the end of In Hell's Bright Shadow. It would be easy for someone to ask the PCs to go check out some strange things happening in Blackcove, which would be relocated to the Ravounel coast of course. They'll be level 4 at the end of the first AP, and I have seven players, so I think they can handle this. I might have to tone down some of the encounters. I think the Skum in this one could be connected in some way to the ones in Turn of the Torrent and Dance of the Damned, and I could move the aquatic elf rangers from the Lucky Bones here. I might use Deep Ones instead and hahve a reduced hit-die, young-template Elder Deep one, or just a Deep One with class levels in a necromancer-type class, probably cleric.

Out of Anarchy:
I'm thinking that Out of Anarchy might fit into Turn of the Torrent. I haven't purchased it or played it, so I don't know too much about it, but I have the idea that maybe Hetamon Haace is trapped in Pezack somehow. His follower Myrletta contacts the PCs and gets them to help him, they go to Pezack either by land or sea and get him out of there, and then when they return, she's the one killed by Varl Wex.

Day of the Demon:
I don't know too much about this, but I figure exploring an abandoned house that was formerly a site of diabolism could fit into the first adventure pretty well.

Others that are noted as taking place in Cheliax are Fingerprints/Fury/Fate of the Fiend series, Echos of the Everwar, and the recent release Faithless and Forgotten. Anyone have any suggestions about how to integrate these, or any other material that could be used?

I've been reading Wayfinder #11 too, which also could have some useful tidbits.

Deepmar is in Ravounel, son 'No Response from Deepmar' would fit into the theme. Might be a good way to secure further loyalties. Could replace the Vyre feast, if your players don't like something like that. Or repair the damage if they failed during the feast.

Oh Right, Deepmar. I forgot about that, and actually I already have it. Yeah that could be a great addition to book 3.

You could try Tower of the Last Baron, which is a solid infiltration adventure. Change the hook to be helping the Iomedaen paladins secure your flank by taking out this outpost, reduce the leader in rank.

If you're looking for another seaside adventure, there's Treasure of Chimera Cove which has a hook from Last Baron, but stands alone pretty well.

Both would need to be updated from 3.5e, but that's not hard.

Here is how I plan to plant Tower of the Last Baron in the campaign:

I haven't run this campaign yet. Currently my group is about 2/3 through RotRL.

But! I bought this module and plan to include it.

As I prep for this campaign I have decided to create a council for the city which includes Jillia Bainilus, Corinstian Grivenner, Porcia Victocora,Octavio Sabinus, and Geoff Tanassen. (The Five Pointed Council or something that suggests Asmodeous' pentagram)
I will include something similar to the beautiful pre-protest exposition thread on this forum.
Just before the start of the game Barzilai will replace Jilia, and he will then fill the vacant Victocora seat with Tiarise Izoni. I plan to play up the frustrations that Octavio will have as he begins to feel helpless and useless on the council. Once Book 2 starts and Barzilai declares Members of The Order of the Torrent outlaws, Octavio will go to ground exactly like the AP plans. However, when the PCs head to the Shrine of Saint Senex, they will learn that Octavio fled to one of Tanassen's estates near the mountains to appeal to Geoff Tanassen's son Galdur who was a childhood friend of Octavio. Octavio hopes to convince Galdur to shake his father's loyalty to Barzilai and hopefully bring some balance back to the council. What Octavio doesn't know is that Galdur has changed much since his youth and has become quite a competent arcanist since they last met. What's more is that he has become a bit obsessed with infernal power and sees the opportunity to help Barzilai with a creation of his own.
The PCs will arrive at the Tanassen estate and find that Octavio has been imprisonned. Rumors will spread that a contingent of Hellknights of the Rack are due to retrieve Octavio for transport and execution in Kintargo. The PCs will ultimately have a choice of sparing Galdur or killing him. Sparing him could change the AP drastically by book three when the PCs attempt to earn the favor of the nobility in Kintargo.
