How do I create a new game?

Hello.

I'd like to GM a game, but I don't know if it's allowed, or how to start, or what the rules for doing this are. I don't even know if this is the right place to put this thread.

I don't own any copies of any scenarios, so I want to create a game entirely on my own, in my own world. I'd use the core rule book, advanced players' guide, and beastiary 1, as those are the only three books I own, and thus, the only three I would allow.

So I guess what I mean is, am I allowed to create my own game, without using a pre-made adventure, and make my own world for my game? Naturally, I understand that this would not be for Pathfinder Society, but that's okay.

I'd appreciate an answer as to if I can do this, and if I can, how.

Sincerely, Kristev.

You can run any game you wish. No need to have a published adventure or module.

How to start / create a PbP is easy.....

1) Open a Recruitment thread in the Recruitment sub-forum.
2) When the Recruitment time is up, tell folks that, and then tell the successful folks that their character is chosen and to confirm their intentions of playing in the Discussion thread.
3) Open a Discussion thread in the Discussion sub-forum.
4) Open a Gameplay thread in the Gameplay sub-forum.

and you are on your way.....

Before doing even the recruitment, check out the "stickied" threads in then General Discussion sub-forum. The top four threads contain much useful information on how to run and participate in a PbP. Also read some of the Recruitment threads already there so you get an idea on how you want folks to create there PC, such as ability scores, classes, books allowed, frequency of posting, etc.

Remember, it is a lot of work so I would start with a small adventure that you have created and go from there.

Good Luck and Good Gaming.

The only things I'd add to DM Papa.DRB's excellent summary are that if you already have your players lined up you don't need to create/open a Recruitment thread, and a suggestion that you look at other Gameplay and Discussion threads to get a handle on how games are run in practice here.

Silver Crusade

Thank you both.

One suggestion I have for you is to do an "Interest Check" in the recruitment. It really sucks to put a lot of time and effort filling out your campaign tab to find out no one is up for what you are offering. Standard Paizo APs seem to be the most popular, though its hard to tell

Just to add a question to this, as a new user/player is it ok to create an alias with GM or DM in the name when starting a game, or is that considered bad etiquette? Not really wanting to do something rude without realizing.

It's fine--lots of us use specific aliases for GMing. Thanks for asking, and welcome to the boards!
