The party has acquired 240 lbs of braided gold.
They suspect the gold and the player who handled it may be cursed due to the circumstances of it been acquired.
If the Curse/Affliction is Supernatural how would they go about detecting it.
Assuming the Curse is not a disease. :-)
From looking through the threads I realise the Curse business is a rules soft area but the previous thread didn't cover Supernatural Curses.
Thanks

Stephen, were you able to find anything on this? How did you wind up handling it?
I'm curious too, as this has some up several time in my current game (running Smuggler's Shiv adventure).
For instance, I created a ship off shore that is cursed. It's curse is that it is bound in place in the water until the PC's solve a riddle and return a linked item to the ship.
I'm wondering how avenues that the PC's can take to discover this curse.
Thanks!

What do you mean by cursed?
Is it a necromancy spell-like effect similar to Bestow Curse? That'd require a Knowledge Arcana check.
Is it haunted with a Haunt? That depends on the Haunt, though Detect Undead/Alignment gives you a chance to detect it before?
Is it magically booby-trapped? Ask the rogue. He's got this covered.
Is it subject to Forbiddance or the like? That'd fall under Knowledge Arcana again.
Is it a cursed item? Detect Magic + Spellcraft (DC is increased by 10)
Divination might act as a catch all if you have access to it.
"If we do X, will we risk being hit with a curse of some sort."
Diagnose Disease should work for the likes Mummy Rot.
Also, most curses have a readily available indication of their existence. An aging curse makes you age, a curse that turns you into a newt turns you into a newt (even if you got better.)
It might be arguable that certain ancient curses are of Artifact level, and nearly impossible to detect, similiar to how you can't use Identify on an Artifact.
