Can you take 20 on performance skill checks?

Rules Questions

As the title asks. I'm unsure because it seems there might be a penalty if you fail (i.e. the DC goes up by 2 each time you fail) but, at the same time, I've seen other threads that suggest one can take 20 on perform checks.

Any solid proof on the yay or nay?

Quote:
Taking 20: When you have plenty of time, you are faced with no threats or distractions, and the skill being attempted carries no penalties for failure, you can take 20. In other words, if you roll a d20 enough times, eventually you will get a 20. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, just calculate your result as if you had rolled a 20
Quote:
Try Again: Yes. Retries are allowed, but they don't negate previous failures, and an audience that has been unimpressed in the past is likely to be prejudiced against future performances. (Increase the DC by 2 for each previous failure.)

Failure carries a penalty, so you can not Take 20.

Cool cool. Thanks.

Another helpful way to think about things is to remember that taking 20 means doing the task over and over again until you get it perfect. That's why you can't take 20 on things with a risk of failure: it's assumed you're failing at the task several times over the course of taking 20. When a singer is out on stage at the opera house and performing for a crowd, they can't really afford to screw things up 19 times and get a do-over each time until they've got it down.

Sure they can, if they're in desperate need of rotten tomatoes. Speaking of which, why would everyone be carrying rotten tomatoes with them anyway?

I always carry a baggie of rotten tomatoes to every movie or live performance I attend. Just in case it sucks.

I thought everybody did. Don't you?

No, no we don't. I'm the guy who pays you a dollar for a tomatoe when it's needed, though.
