If I recall correctly the Nautiloid ships were simply built to resemble a nautilus, not actually a creature. However, it's funny you should mention that. I am in the rough stages of developing a Spelljammer-esque campaign based on Larry Niven's book The Integral Trees. One feature would be living spaceships bred to carry passengers. I was looking into nautiloid as the base creature. The ships are bred by a race of elephantine humanoids called the Yih that I once developed for a project that fizzled a while ago. I still liked the concept though.
Interesting.
A completely living-organism based technology? Like the now-defunct Yuuzahn Vong of Star Wars Expanded universe? Or simply using large creatures for their shells and turning them into spaceships?Color the old mage curious. ;)
edit- Does anyone else feel a draft?!?

So my Spelljammer style world. It doesn't have a terrestrial globe, or planets, per se. It is a area of space where the elements of earth, air, water, and fire emerge from huge elemental gates. These four gates orbit a fifth gate known as the Void, which sucks in anything that comes too near, presumably to somewhere bad because it radiates negative energy.
The Earth Gate: (The Grind) is a large collection of dirt and rocks that continually valve earth ergs that float off into zero gee
The Water Gate: (The Froth) is a boiling sea of churning water that shoots of globules of water constantly
The Fire Gate: (The Furnace) is basically a sun, heating the area
The Air Gate: (The Storm) is a constant hurricane of air whipping out and agitating the atmosphere
The Void Gate: (simply known as The Void) slowly draws material from the other gates into itself. It has a surrounding region known as The Muck where a muddy morass of earth and water collect and circle the Void before being sucked in.
Most native life forms are accustomed to zero-gee living. There are also of course imports from other places, including humans and most of the other regular species (in some amount or another). The Yih are not native, but have lived in the area for centuries. They have several immense living habitats that are enormous trees biocrafted into small planetoids.
That's a rough sketch so far.

So that's only for untitled, then?
Neat. Pretty sure they're still keeping me off that thread by musketpoint, or spearpoint, or whatever those old fogeys have made it up to at this point, so that's no skin off my nose! ;)
I think it's only if you repeat it on the same page. Try it again

As for keeping you off, I'm pretty sure that thread is a cultural artifact at this point. No one posts there on a regular basis anymore
Yeah, I kid. Though something interesting I noticed recently—I apparently have a reputation for only frequenting political and rules-related discussions these days. Which is so far from what I used to be known for, I was sort of amazed.
Probably better than the reputation for spamming, whining, and messing up roleplays, of course. ;P

People evolve. I've learned much about online demeanor since coming here. This was my first real messageboard. I've gotten to the point where I just want to talk games. You wanna talk games? That's cool. You want to kvetch about your day? That's cool too. You want to tackle injustice and/or politics? Well, I wish you Godspeed and ask you not include me for I don't want to. I deal with enough of that elsewhere.
I used to get into it in the OTD, but F it. No one wants my opinion. I don't want a bunch of rando posters' opinions. It works out better if we discuss what we have in common. Gaming and gaming related stuff.

Got an offer for significant (and time-sensitive) work based on another author's recommendation from work I did on an associated bestiary.
I realize I'm vagueposting, but it's too exciting not to share somewhere. :)
[Cajun Schneider] YOU KIN DO EET![/Cajun Schneider]
As a trivial tangent, did you know the singer Elle King, Chanteuse with the catchy pop song Exes and Ohs, is Rob Schneider's daughter? I thought that was interesting

How've you been my friend?
Lordy, how to compress four years? Let's see ...
My life has gone through several large disruptions. My daughter passed away in 2013, and this admittedly horrific event eventually led to my divorce in 2015. I no longer work at a bakery, I am now a security officer at the local hospital and I am attempting to gain a paralegal certificate from my alma mater Suffolk University in the assumption that legal work will never go out of style.
Paradoxically I am in a much better mind space now that I am single. I do wish I had a bit more financial security, but who doesn't? I made a decision to live life as well as I can. In that theme I decided to go to GenCon this year. I'm pretty stoked.
My Planescape game still stutters along, although not as fast as once it did. My homebrew and another one I kind of fell into running (Baba Yaga AP) still putter along too. For someone with a still-tenuous grasp on Pathfinder rules I do ok.

Oh man, so sorry to hear about your daughter. To say that's rough would no doubt be an understatement.
Good to hear about your studies and especially GenCon trip, that should be great.
I know what you mean about still having a tenuous grasp on the rules ... I have been running a Pathfinder game for my group for the past 3-4 years, and was recently corrected / schooled on an incorrect rules call I had made by the 9 or 10 year old son of one of the guys in the group ...

Now we just have to get Kruelaid back and we can get Z Day back on track!
He has made noises about starting again, but I think RL is seriously kicking his ass right now
Ha! That'd be cool.
Though in all seriousness I would have to see if I'm really back first (other than just to say hi), and make sure I wasn't about to fall back into old / bad / obsessive posting and messageboard checking habits before I considered getting back into pbp ...

So, weird chance today to buy some cool minis that had been part of a Kickstarter that imploded thanks to the Kickstarter-ers bad business sense. Although I had already paid into the original KS, the discount was so good for previous KS participants I had to spend a few of my last shekels to get them. They really are fantastic minis. Plus, Asmodeus. The man himself.

Dude, Nice to see you again. I hope all is good? :)
Nice to see you too mate. For the most part, yes, all is good.

Glad to hear it.
Pretty much the same here. ;)
(I have decided that there is nothing wrong with my life. That a big-@$$ pile of money couldn't cure.) ;P

Oi vay yes!
I'm firmly in the camp of having minis I've never used, and likely never will. But I love the things! That's why I liked it when they started coming out with the pre-painted ones. :)
I have not actually painted a mini in years. But I still have a collection that I hope to get to and finish. Someday. :/
