Hi, All!
I need your ideas how to motivate PCs to stay in Sandpoint after stone giant's raid on Sandpoint.
I want to give PCs at least 2 weeks for downtime (retrain, craft, etc) but I'm sure that PCs will rush to pursue retreating giants that took prisoners.
How to lure them stay a little bit longer?
What should I do? :)

Honestly, I didn't. The stone giants that they interrogated let them know that they were just a small fraction of the giants that Mokmurian had under his command, and that they had maybe a month before the warlord was ready to march on Varisia's lowlands. The trek from Varisia to Jorgenfist took about two weeks, so they didn't have a lot of spare time.
I also think that's a good thing. The PCs want to jump at the chance to save Sandpoint (and by extension, all of Varisia) from this clear and present threat.

Remember, as detailed on the bottom of page 549 of the Core Rulebook, that while it's best to take downtime and work 8 hours a day on creating items, this isn't required.
Pathfinder specifically allows characters to adventure and craft magic items simultaneously.
If the caster is out adventuring, he can devote 4 hours each day to item creation, although he nets only 2 hours' worth of work. This time is not spent in one continuous period, but rather during lunch, morning preparation, or during watches at night.
So the item crafters can work on their items while they travel or even on days spent partially dungeon crawling.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I knew about that adjustment to item creation. Good to know. So, someone creating items basically builds at quarter speed, unless the item takes under two hours to build, then it's just overnight, right?
More or less. They can build at half speed if they have the 4 hours to devote specifically to item creation and have access to a good workspace, but in most cases, such as when traveling, it's 2 hours of progress per day, yes.

Yes, I understand that, but on the other hand I feel that a lot of PCs really need downtime time - some of them invested in Item Creation feats but for 2-3 levels already could not find time to use them...
So...
Yea, but that seems like a pretty big intrusion of meta-game perspective. In character, it seems harsh and self-absorbed - "Yea I know your family and friends were kidnapped by the giants, likely for slavery or food or who knows what, but we can't be bothered with that right now. We're going to pop off to Magnimar for some shopping and perhaps a bit of practice. We'll probably get around to it in a few weeks. We'll let you know how it goes. Don't call us, we'll call you."

There seems to be a more natural break after Jorgenfist. Some could craft while others explore the Library, and they could spend a little extra time there before heading back. They could also craft on the way back.
