Animal companions roll dice for HP, or do they use the D10 track for other classes with with d10s?

It's probably in that "year of the serpent document," but I can't find it.

They use d8s, so they have 4.5 hp per hitdie.

How do I determine hit points for my animal companion?

Animal companions receive average hit points per hit die. For d8, the average is 4.5. Multiply 4.5 times the number of hit dice your animal companion has and round down. Recalculate hit points for your companion each time it gains additional hit dice. After its hit points are calculated, add in appropriate bonuses from its Constitution modifier, feats, and so on.

EDIT: Stupid horse ninjas...

They average hit points per hit die. In the case of animal companions it is 5.5 per die. Thus a two hit die companion has 11 hit points plus con mod, while one with three hit die has 16.5 which is rounded down to 16 until it gains another hit die.

You're off by a point. See Flutter and Eric's posts above.
