Triggering a Mesmerists trick outside of trigger conditions

Rules Questions

The text for Mesmerist Trick says " The mesmerist can activate the trick as a free action when a triggering condition is met (as defined in the trick's description), even if it isn't his turn."

Bolding for emphasis.

Does this mean the Mesmerist can only trigger a trick when a triggering condition happens or that they can trigger it at any point but can do it as an immediate action if the triggering condition happens.

If the second interpretation is the correct one, what is the action type for triggering it without meeting the conditions? A standard action?

One, "Immediate Action" is actually a defined term, and triggering a Mesmerist Trick isn't one. But that's probably just nitpicking.

Two - RAW, no. You can't trigger tricks outside of the trigger condition. You can waive and void them without triggering them so you can implant another trick, but since the only mention of how to trigger them is "as a free action, even if it isn't their turn, as long as the trigger condition is met", that's the only way you get.

That being said, I don't think anything would break if standard action triggering was allowed.

So, I can't make practical joke on my friend 'Armored Fighter', slap him with spatial switch, climb on the cliff and then swap place with him, until I have an angry bee in bottle, which I could release to attack me?

Hmm. Ok.
