How much Wisdom as a trapper.

Advice

Well the title says most of it. How much WIS should a trapper invest? So faar I thinking 12. Going halfling and we have 25 points. In our campaign craft traps will be needed.

I will focus heavly on sling (Halfling Sling Master class combined with trapper, no pet or magic.

Here's the corrected link:

Trapper Archetype

It depends on how often you plan to set traps. I've played around with Kobolds with the Trapper archetype as NPCs and they're a TON of fun. Your Wisdom determines how many traps per day you can setup during combat. If you're going to do that a lot (and why wouldn't you if you're sacrificing all your spells to be able to do it) then you'll want a high wisdom. Also, your save DCs are based on your Wisdom. As such - it should be your highest attribute. With a 25 point build, you should start with a 17 or 18 in it.

It seemse very high and to be honest it was mostly to not bother with spells but I may my gm if I could add my ranks in craft to DC + use.

Need a high dex for stealth for the sling master stuff.

You mentioned that you didn't want to bother with spells in one of your earlier posts too, but I still don't see how that is relevant to the Ranger Trapper.

The Ranger Trapper is a RANGER archetype. You shouldn't be able to take that archetype for the Halfling Sling Master class.

If your GM is okay with it however, then there shouldn't be any problem.

And by the way, if you're not using the spells of the Halfling Sling Master, then charisma should be your dump stat. I remember that you had a fairly high one, which is pretty useless if it isn't connected to a class feature.

Excuse my insanely late responds!

We ended up making a house rule to make Trapper better.

Half Ranger level + Ranks in Craft Trap on both DC and use per day. "Which is a class skill now in our house rule as litte bonus to the class" to make it more viable. Many said the DC on the traps where already terrorbad so yeah, we did that.

My GM prefered I had craft trap in general if I was going in Trapper, both for roleplay flavor and to suit our more "realistic" sorta play style. So yeah looking forward to see how it works out :)

I would not focus too hard on it. I am not aware of the class, but something like 12-14 would be nice. I am not aware of how much skill points this class says, but if it is at least 6+ you should be able to spare a few ranks for this craft. Make sure you find ways to use it, though :D
