TWF Swashbuckler

Rules Questions

At a recent pathfinder society event I had a couple people that regularly GM tell me that swashbucklers lose swashbucklers finesse if they dual wield.

Is this true? I've been searching the forums and the web for the past hour and can't find any reference to this.

From the d20PFSRD, it doesn't look like you lose Swashbuckler's Finesse by dual-wielding, but you do lose Precise Strike.

Grand Lodge

Absolutely untrue.

Advanced Class Guide wrote:
Swashbuckler Finesse (Ex): At 1st level, a swashbuckler gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons, and she can use her Charisma score in place of Intelligence as a prerequisite for combat feats. This ability counts as having the Weapon Finesse feat for purposes of meeting feat prerequisites.

Nothing suggests it in the least.

I was told it was part of one of the erratas. ACG or ultimate combat I think.

Grand Lodge

Even Precise Strike does not prevent wielding a second weapon.

To use Precise Strike, you must only attack with one weapon, there is no need for free hands.

Grand Lodge

Perhaps they are thinking of the Slashing Grace feat?

They (and everyone else) did lose the ability to use Slashing Grace with TWF in the errata'd ACG. Maybe that's what they were thinking of.

Edit: Blackbloodtroll Ninja'd me by mere seconds. Crafty fellow, that BBT. :)

I hope so. They were pretty adamant it was swashbucklers finesse. That would seriously screw up one of my favorite characters.

Grand Lodge

They cannot change, alter, or create new rules.

They cannot disallow legal PCs.

Grand Lodge

The latest printing of the ACG has no new language altering Swashbuckler's Finesse in such a way, and nothing is listed in the ACG FAQ.

Grand Lodge

Do you own the ACG PDF?

Here are the only errata for the Swashbuckler section of the ACG.

Quote:

•Page 56—In the Grit and Panache sidebar, after the second paragraph’s first sentence, add “Swashbuckler levels stack with gunslinger levels for the purpose of satisfying Signature Deed’s level requirement.”

• Page 57—In the Opportune Parry and Riposte deed, at the end, add “This deed’s cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs.”

Thanks for the fast responses. I was worried I was going to have to do a quick burning of some prestige and gold to do some retraining before aethercon.

But it looks like the Swagus (swashbuckler/magus) is good to go.

Yep BBT I own the ACG PDF.

Grand Lodge

If you own the PDF, download it again.

This will be watermarked with your email, and the date.

Print out the page describing the Swashbuckler Finesse class feature.

Next, go here, and print out the page. Be sure to keep the link handy.

Now, bring these two copies with you. Show them, and proceed to run your PC, as you designed, and ask that any decision to refuse the functionality of your PC, be met with evidence that proves their ruling, and disproves the evidence you provided. Share the FAQ link if asked.

BBT, this didn't impact a game that was being played. It came up in conversation after the game. Thanks for the advice, though.

Grand Lodge

If you feel it might be a problem, it is best to be prepared.

I had to go through something similar, with some misremembered FAQ/Errata that never existed.

I was glad to have the tools needed on hand.
