If you want to channel, don't play a warpriest. Channel energy is a waste of fervor on a warpriest. As a warpriest, every use of fervor should be to cast a swift action buff spell to make you wreck face harder. The only exception is if you use it to smite, but even still, that requires a decent CHA, which is otherwise a waste for a warpriest.
If you want to channel, play a cleric.

Channel energy for healing is only good on a life Oracle.
Then you have the Hang over cleric who AoE dazes creatures.
Channel is typically a sub par ability. It is even more so on a warpriest. It is to only be used on a warpriest in the most dire of situations.
I recommend just making a scythe user Warpriest cause it is pretty fun.
Be sure to take a blessing that summons and grab quick blessing at 11 for it.

So what would be a good melee healer type? Yes I would like to stick with scythe...
Hospitaler paladin is pretty good at healing and melee damage. They can't use versatile channeling either though.
Similarly, a spirit guide oracle can be life and pick up a spirit with better spell damage options.

Life Oracle with a single level of fighter would be capable of using a scythe and channeling to heal.
The following deities have scythe as a favored weapon and are neutral or good, allowing for positive channels:
Svarozic - a lawful good Empyreal lord.
Magdh- lawful neutral member of the Eldest (Fey deities)
That's it.

For sheer style points: "The Hand of Fate"
Separatist Cleric of Magdh, with the Trickery:Deception subdomain (Mirror Image and Confusion) - you'll need to re-take Scythe Proficiency at 1. Take one level of Unchained Monk. Dual Talent Human for high STR and WIS. Pick up Crusader's Flurry, and proceed to use Unchained Flurry of Blows with a scythe (one free attack with no penalty, all normal two-handed bonuses apply). Wear a robe with high Wisdom AC, and use Mirror Image - because the rabble who oppose you don't deserve a fair shot at life. Oh, and use Aura of Doom because see above. Eventually take Mantis Style + Cornugon Stun for some high-DC scythe-based Stunning Fist. Of course, you can also condescend to healing your allies if you really want to.
