Based on the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook FAQ, the damage increase (or decrease is the following:
1 - 1d2 - 1d3 - 1d4 - 1d6 - 1d8 - 1d10 - 2d6 - 2d8 - 3d6 - 3d8 - 4d6 - 4d8 - 6d6 - 6d8 - 8d6 - 8d8 - 12d6 - 12d8 - 16d6
Why was 1d12 skipped between 1d10 and 2d6?
Why does the damage only increase by 1 step when 1d6 or less?
This really make a huge damage curve when using lead blades or gravity bow or enlarge person with a weapon originally doing 1d6 damage (does 1d8 enlarged) vs a weapon originally doing 1d8 damage (does 2d6 enlarged).
To me IMHO, it makes those weapon enlarging spells almost useless when wielding a short sword or light mace.

12 = 6 + 6. 2d6 is 1d12, just a little better.

because halflings and gnomes. No really, their weapons are lower then the medium version. And they wouldn't have wanted their 1d6 going down to a d3 instead of a d4. So to keep everything consistent and working you have what you see before you.

Yup, that's why builds that work with those usually want bigger weapons.

1d12 does 6 points of damage if you are using Measured Response, but 2d6 does 7.
However, if you are rolling, the d12 has a flat 8.33% chance of getting any result, making you much more likely to get a 12. With 2d6 the probability curve means you only have a 2.8% chance of getting a 2 or a 12, but a 16.6% chance of getting a 7.
2d6 means you have a more normalized damage, but you will often have higher damage spikes with a d12.
Besides greataxes and Lucerne hammers are cool.

Besides, who wants to lug a d12 around, anyway? I mean, the thing is nearly useless in this game. Unless you're a barbarian or you like great axes. I say convert them all to 2d6 and roll that old d12 right over to the discarded dice pile once and for all.
As a d12 I agree they are not worth much, but I have a set of d12's that are d4's (3 ones, 3 twos, 3 threes, and 3 fours) and they are so much easier to use and read (for newbies) than the triangular d4's in my opinion.
So let's not totally get rid of the shape, but, yes, as a d12 it can go away.

I would love those dice; I'll have to go find them now.
However, I was trying for a little sarcasm in my previous post - I'm actually a little sad that we don't have more use for the d12. After all, it is one of Plato's five perfect solids and I've been (at least occasionally) rolling them since 1979; I would miss them if they became extinct.

I was a kickstarter backer for doublesix dice who use d12s to make d6s and they also have d4s that are very nice. There were SEVERAL problems with manufacture with language barriers and poor quality from the factory in china, but when they finally arrived they were high quality. If they ever launch the store I would recommend them.

I'll second third (ninjas are always out to get me!) that recommendation, definitely the best Kickstarter I've backed in quality. Just wish I'd gone for some of the fours.
