Hell's Rebels Obituary Thread *SPOILERS INBOUND*

Hell's Rebels

51 to 62 of 62 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Name: Mordecai
Race: Elf
Class: Witch 9 / Sensei Monk 1
Location: Lucky Bones
Cause of Death : Full attack from a flanking Jorogumo

Not much to really say here. My first game after a 6 week hiatus
The group were attacked on the bridge by the cultists and then got to the lucky bones where the Jorogumo had infiltrated

After various manoeuvrings the witch ended up caught flanked by a full attack from the Jorogumo. Despite 30 AC the flank helped me hit all 3 attacks with power attack . Some insanely above aboverage of rolling lead to 32 and 31 damage from the first two attacks leaving him in the worst possible position - still standing on 0

I had no choice but to take the final attack and reduce him to -28 (or something like that)

Jorogumo HP pool and DR made them no joke. Kineticist had to charge up and unleash an empowered blood blast to turn the tide from what was looking like an ugly combat

The devoted muse had taken 11 from 12 wisdom damage before restored with greater restoration

Nasty stuff

And the there are still two more in adventure and probably one more next week. I am not sure how to make that fight different !

Name: The'Sslar
Race: Vishkanya
Class: Slayer 12
Location: Temple of Asmodeus, Hall of Nine Infernos
Cause of Death: Weird spell from a trap

The party is currently storming the temple of Asmodeus. Searching for the infernal engines, they entered the Hall of Nine Infernos and the Shadowdancer failed to spot the trap. Nobody died to the Weird spell, but the party tarried and got sandwiched between a gang of five priests of Asmodeus who came storming up the stairs and several bone devils coming through the library, all of whom were activated by Aluceda Zhol. The party took some time beating that double threat down and afterwards nobody thought of the trap... which reset after a minute, this time hitting the entire party and killing The'Sslar. He was brought back immediately with one of the scrolls of Raise Dead which were given out as loot earlier in the campaign and brought up back to almost top shape with another scroll of Restoration. The entire top floor has now been cleared (Barzillai is somewhere about in the temple... his guard "dog" Hellgouille gave a surprisingly hard fight to the party) and the party has retired from the temple to rest, giving everybody there a chance to get as prepared as possible.

Name: Paran Falkenmond
Race: Human
Class: Cavalier 5 / Hell Knight 7 (Order of the Torrent)
Location: Temple of Asmodeus, main hall
Cause of Death: Evocation magic, lots of it

The party returned on the second day of the ritual (which was prolonged to six days with a successful sabotage action) and cleared the right side of the temple pretty easily. However, they were seen and Barzillai got the Gardener and Zdella Zidlii, as well as five priests of Asmodeus, together to hunt them down. They finally were spotted passing by the north-eastern entrance to the anteroom of Alucedas sleeping area. While the party was busy dealing with Alucedas two vampire guards, Barzillai and his troupe closed the distance and catched up with the party. A pretty hefty fight ensued, which saw Zella go down to a phantasmal killer of the party Mesmerist before she could even act, but still a ton of fireballs, cone of colds and flame strikes impacted the party in quick succession. Paran went down hard as well as the parties Mystic Theurge, although that character still had two hero points to stave off death.

The Gardener then also went down to another phantasmal killer from the Mesmerist, but a withdraw was obviously necessary, with Barzillai already getting very close with his flaming mace. The Shadowdancer of the party used his shadow jump ability to get Paran out of the temple and the Slayer picked up the unconscious Mysthic Theurge, running with him to the front doors, which the Mesmerist got open and the party managed to beat a hasty retreat through the front doors. Barzillai still got a few good hits in on the Slayer, but chose to not pursue outside of the temple, fearing an ambush.

The party used a scroll of ressurection found earlier on Paran and restored the negative level with a restoration. Hopefully for them, the third day will go without a dead party member, since they are running out of consumables to ressurect more dead friends.

Name: Giordano

Origin: Former Slave
Adventure: A Song of Silver
Location: The Wasp Nest
Cause of Death: Skinsaw Cultist

Name: Treep Fushi
Race: Tengu
Class: Investigator (Empiricist)
Alignment: CG
Origin: Fushi Sister
Adventure: A Song of Silver
Location: The Wasp Nest
Cause of Death: Jorogumo

Hey, did you guys know that if you paralyse your player characters, YOU can coup de grace THEM?

(They got better.)

Name: Jeca Kanters
Race: Aasimar
Class: Warpriest (Cayden Cailean)
Alignment: CG
Adventure: The Kintargo Contract
Location: Urchin's Maw
Cause of Death: Eaten by charybdis

Party was pretty cocky after having steamrolled through the skum, Sluucoroth, and the seaweed siren in Urchin's Maw. Then Baraagama came surging out of the depths and, over the span of ~3 rounds, swallowed the warpriest, the cleric, and the paladin.

Warpriest died, cleric barely clung on thanks to a wand, paladin was mostly fine. Paladin escaped when the witch's familiar came to teleport her out, and the other two got out when a summoned celestial giant squid tore Baraagama in half.

(Warpriest got immediately resurrected.)

Name: The'Sslar
Race: Vishkanya
Class: Slayer 16
Location: The Soulbound Fane
Cause of Death: Finger of Death

The party has entered the Soulbound Fane and triggered Adrakash, as the book foresaw. Adrakash seemed a bit scary, especially since I upgraded his stats to be more in line with what the player characters can hit, but in the end he got pretty much beaten down in three rounds. However, he still got off two quickened Finger of Death spells. One was saved against by the Hellknight of the party, the other one by The'Sslar... was not. 240 points of damage is a lot, even against a party with max out hitpoints. The'Sslar still had two hero points left, so his heroic spirit saved his body, but I still count this as a death. ^^

Sovereign Court

Name: Drixa
Race: Human
Class: Bloodrager 4
Adventure: Turn of the Torrent
Location: Holding House
Cause of Death: Failing 4 saves in a row against Hold Person

The party attempted to trick the staff of the Holding House using a forged document, but Sabo saw through the party's bluff and a very long combat ensued (25 rounds, plus another 9 rounds against reinforcements 2 minutes later). Drixa found herself facing Sabo, who cast a Hold Person spell on her. Drixa failed her initial will save, and when her turn came, failed again. The party's cleric freed her using Remove Paralysis. On her next turn, Sabo cast Hold Person on Drixa again. She failed her save again. When her turn came, she failed again to escape the spell. Sabo performed a coup de grace on the next turn.

Name: Mist
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Rogue 3/Ranger 1
Adventure: Turn of the Torrent
Location: Holding House
Cause of Death: Being on the receiving end of a critical from a dottari guard's halberd ([1d10+14] x3 damage)

Nothing much to say, over such a long battle, it was bound to happen that one of the heavy-hitting guards would score a critical at least once. Poor Mist was the unfortunate recipient of 52 points of damage.

Both characters survived using Hero Points.

Sovereign Court

Name: Hornucopia Praxtar
Race: Tiefling
Class: Occultist 12
Adventure: A Song of Silver
Location: E41, indirectly
Cause of Death: Coming back to their base after their initial assault on the temple of Asmodeus, the PCs took some time to identify and divide up the treasure they found, including the content of Barzillai's workshop. Hornucopia was the "lucky" winner of the cursed Silver Raven figurine. Due to the CL19 of the Scarab of Death, she was unable to detect the curse using her Object Reading power, as were her comrades using the more conventional "Detect Magic + Spellcraft" method. The raven animated and tried to burrow inside Hornucopia's flesh and she failed by 1 her Reflex save to tear it away. She used a Hero Point to succeed the save instead.

Dark Archive

Hey I forgot to add one from my wife's campaign. She doesn't prowl the message boards, but I figured I'd add to the collection just the same.

Name: Korlath
Race/Class: Half-Giant/Warpriest 6
Adventure: Turn of the Torrent
Location: Lucky Bones Dungeon
Catalyst: Globster and poor decisions.
Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The Silver Ravens had been cutting through the skum in the lowest level of the Lucky Bones dungeons without too much difficulty. Then they ran into the globster like a buzzsaw. Most of the group used blunt weapons or had switched to piercing weapons due to the underwater fighting so were having serious difficulty hurting the ooze. Also, that advanced globster hit like a truck. It knocked several people down including Korlath and all the other melee fighters. Korlath was healed up right next to the globster and -instead of turtling until the melee went passed him- he tried to stand up. Despite repeated warnings from the DM (and his fellow players), Korlath was determined to resume his place as tank. Of course he was grabbed and constricted taking him from barely conscious to quite dead. Fortunately they had the scroll of Raise Dead and Korlath was soon back to the land of the living, hopefully wiser than before.

Name: Rhoda Fairbutton
Race: Halfling
Class: Cleric of Shelyn
Adventure: In Hell's Bright Shadow
Location: Wasp's Nest
Cause of Death: Crocodile
Gory Details:

Spoiler:
When clearing out the Wasp's Nest for the first time, the crocodile came out of the water, charged Rhoda, crit, and took her from full to true dead in one bite. Her twin sister raced her to the temple of Shelyn, where the priests performed a raise dead and she is now in debt.

Name: Krinkle and Alcinus Tanessan
Race: Ratfolk and Human
Class: Investigator and Skald
Adventure: In Hell's Bright Shadow
Location: Many-Steps Monastery
Cause of Death: Nox
Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Nox and her glaive crit Krinkle and took him down to dead (he already had damage from earlier in the dungeon). We were prepared with a scroll of gentle repose this time after Rhoda's death. Alcinus took one for the team and blocked Nox's escape route, so she had to spend time cutting him down, during which the remaining party cut her down. Krinkle came back with a breath of life again from the temple of Shelyn, while Alcinus was raise dead-ed by his mother, Alivia Tanessan, a ninth level Cleric of Mephistopheles. She is the most terrifying npc we have met so far.

Two of the PCs in my game went down during that fight!

The other two ran and wedged the entrance shut with a crowbar one of them had.
(The two that went down then had fun escaping from prison the next session)
