Attack Rolls and CMB spells

Rules Questions

Hey! Probably a dumb question, but it's been at the back of my mind awhile. Since you add any attack bonuses to combat maneuvers, would you add them to spells such as hydraulic push and others?

I'm inclined to say no, since it's not quite an attack roll (since they mostly use caster level + INT/WIS/CHA mod).

Not sure of hydraulic push, but other spell I've used mention you sub your Int/wis/cha in place of str. So yes you do use your bab as well.

It looks like you would. Hydraulic Push is a bull rush, a bull rush is an attack which requires a roll, hence, it is an attack roll. If you have stuff that adds to attack roll, then you should apply that, too.

Any spell that makes a combat maneuver check is making an attack roll. Any bonus that can be applied to all attack rolls applies.

When you attempt to perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll and add your CMB in place of your normal attack bonus. Add any bonuses you currently have on attack rolls due to spells, feats, and other effects. These bonuses must be applicable to the weapon or attack used to perform the maneuver. The DC of this maneuver is your target’s Combat Maneuver Defense. Combat maneuvers are attack rolls, so you must roll for concealment and take any other penalties that would normally apply to an attack roll.

So, a bonus to a weapon would not apply to Hydraulic Push, but a morale bonus to attack or a bonus to a specific combat maneuver would.

Interesting. I had thoughts of a True Strike combined with a Hydraulic Torrent. Since that calls out "a single CMB check," I'm assuming the +20 will apply to everyone in the line
