No.
Encountering A Card Players may only play cards or use powers that relate to each step (or relate to cards played or powers used in that step).
Playing Cure doesn't directly relate to taking damage. It relates to the consequences of taking damage, but not the act of taking damage (in contrast to, say, armor). So it can't be played at that time.

While looking for an answer to my previous question, I came across something that I think our group may have been doing wrong. When you are taking damage, is it legal to cast Cure?
Short answer, no.
Longer answer, you can generally play cards at any time EXCEPT during an encounter. Then you have to play cards that are related to each step. When you take damage, you can only play cards that reduce or avoid damage.
So, if you have a Cure in your hand, say, and are forced to take damage and maybe lose it, you can't hurry up and cast it.

Always remind me of one of my first D&D1 as a DM (long long ago) trying to explain that no, you cannot drink the healing potion while the monster is cutting your throat!!!

I always let that be done. It just doesn't have an effect because it never makes it into their system, it flows through the new ventilation system the monster just installed in their neck.
