magical horseshoes on centaurs

Rules Questions

Horseshoes of Speed function "when affixed to an animal's hooves," and Horseshoes of a Zephyr "allow a horse to travel without actually touching the ground."

So do neither of these items work for centaurs?

(Perhaps I should say "is there a reasonable interpretation of RAW that lets them work for centaurs?" because I think RAI they should work for any hoofed quadruped.)

EDIT: make that any hoofed horse-based quadruped. Pigs can't wear horseshoes.

Nicos, could you repost? I can see on my all-msgboards page that you posted, but apparently the site made your post #11716189 in this thread so it isn't showing up when I go to read it.

Indeed, that so weird.

Ok, "No clue about fantasy biology, but I guess you could argue that centaurs belong to the kingdom Animalia and are therefore animals."

If on the other hand Animal refers to the animal monster type then by strict raw centaurs can't sue them.

RAW: No. The first specifies animals and the second specifies horses.

However I think it's a pretty reasonable houserule to ask for.

They wouldn't work on a Pegasus either. But I agree with CampinCarl that it would be a reasonable houserule if you had Centaur PCs. It would let them fill the "foot" slot with analogues to things like Boots of Striding. But If you play in a Golarion based campaign, they might refuse to wear them.

Dark Archive

I would allow them to be used on centaurs or any other horse like creature. Pegasus is considered a magical beast not an animal but i would think horse shoes could be used on them

Scarab Sages

RAI I'm pretty sure you can put them on anything with hooves. I'd allow it, anyway.

Animal Archive, front inside cover has lists of item slots available for various body types.

For Quadruped (hooves) one of the slots listed is feet (horseshoes).

To me it seems clear that the various magical horseshoes would work on centaurs and Pegasus.

Yes it's reasonable. Remember that the rules assume that all PC's are medium size bipeds. They aren't going to bother putting the phrase...(BTW, if you happen to be a centaur.......)

Okay, that's a clear consensus. Thanks all.
