Monk / Kineticist

Advice

Working on a character and thematically Monk and Kineticist work for it, but I'm not sure if they would work mechanically would take a few levels of monk then multi into Kin.

It'll probably work better than the archetype Kineticists have just for this combo, but Burn is, unfortunately, dealing damage equal to character level so watch out for that.

i would suggest going with elemental ascetic VMC monk

Actually, while VMC Monk and Elemental Ascetic could probably pull off damage, I feel it gives up too much. Giving up a bunch of forms for blasts, then losing Elemental Defense is too much for what you get. Maybe VMC Monk and regular Kineticist. You lose out on your blast damage die getting higher as you go up, but with VMC Monk, you might still be able to do something with Kinetic Fist.

You could go regular kineticist and just form gauntlets with kinetic blade, and maybe take VMC monk, though you would be so feat starved I'm not sure if you could TWF with that. Elemental annihilator with the same trick might work too, but you would be giving up a lot for it.

You still wouldn't be able to use kinetic blade in a flurry, even if it took the form of a [monk] weapon.

The kinetic blade’s shape is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect the damage dice, critical threat range, or critical multiplier of the kinetic blade, nor does it grant the kinetic blade any weapon special features.

One level of monk + X Kineticist would thematically accomplish your goals.

Thank you everyone for the responses. Time to play around on Herolab now!

Why? Monk VMC is the worst out of all of them.

I have plans to do the same. Hard part is waiting for 4th level in PFS to get a Conductive Amulet of Mighty Fists to start laying down 3d6+5 melee strikes. Plus by splashing one level, there are several options to pickup the unarmed strike. Monk, Monk Unchained, Brawler.

Just so you know a conductive amof will only enhance one attack per round.
It not going to be more effective than simply using the kinetic blade with a full attack.

Thanks. I missed that on first reading.

I had good results in a one-shot game with a Monk 1/Kineticist 7. I was originally going to go with a straight Kineticist 8 with the Elemental Ascetic archetype but soon realized that the one level dip into Monk actually worked better. Water is a good element choice for this combination because you can quite nicely replace your light armor with a combination of your elemental defense and your wisdom bonus.
