Question regarding the way the False Focus feat interacts with particular spells

Rules Questions

If I took the False Focus feat and had a 100gp holy symbol tattoo, could I use fabricate to make items for free? As in if I have a 100gp piece of adamantine, could I Fabricate an adamantine Greatsword and NOT use up the piece of Adamantine?

Anyone?

No, the materials used are the target of the spell as well as the material. No legitimate target, the spell fails.

It's a little more complicated than that.

I think what would happen in the case of fabricate is that you could turn your 100 gp tatoo into something that requires 100 gp worth of skin and ink to craft. I think in the process it would destroy the tattoo because fabricate converts the targeted material into something else.

In the case of 100 gp of adamantine, you could create someting that required only 100 gp of adamantine as a raw material to craft.

A andamantine greatsword costs 3000 gp + 50 gp for a basic greatsword.
Craft rules require you to pay 1/3 the normal cost for raw materials. In this case 1017 gp.

So, in order to use fabricate to make an adamantine sword, you would need 1017 gp worth of adamantine and then could turn it into a adamantine greatsword.

Basically fabricate just allows you to bypass the normal time required to craft something with the appropriate craft skill. Actually, you still need the appropriate craft skill to make the item, in this case craft weapons.

Trying to craft this normally would take weeks to actually do, depending on your craft skill ability.

You could create an Adamantine Wire Saw.

You could create a Masterwork Club.

so I could carry steel and make any weapon my party needed at that time?

Grand Lodge

Non-masterwork, yes.

Can you even make a Adamantine Greatsword? Since it must be masterwork. Normally with Craft you craft the item and then craft the masterwork part with DC 20.

Can you make masterwork items with Fabricate?

No so, BBT.

Masterwork weapons craftable by Fabricate*:
Wooden stake
Club
Quarterstaff
Sling
Stringchuck
Ammentum
Throwing arrow cord
Sling, stitched

/cevah

*All listed weapons are free, so a masterwork version is 300 gp, the upper limit to fabricate with false focus.

Grand Lodge

Well, any non-masterwork, and also a few Masterwork.

I already noted the Club example.

You still need the target materials. For the club and quarterstaff a suitable piece of wood and so on.

No target, no party.

Didn't someone make a list of spells that work with False Focus?

I don't recall one, but my memory is fallible.

But it would probably be a shorter list for the spells with M costs that are higher than 100 gp.

Although there is one spell, if you can add it to your list, that could have a cost this 100 gp or 1,000 gp, depending on results needed. And it should be a spell on the Razmiran Priest list, IMO, Atonement.
