Societal effects of a global Sorcerer gestalt?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

(For those who don't know, Gestalt rules

Let's say that everyone in the world gestalts with Sorcerer- But with the spell on their spell list determined randomly, with no option to retrain besides the option granted by the sorcerer option list.

Let's say you can swap around mental stat of your sorcerer class by dropping your bloodline spells, or first level bloodline power.

Grand Lodge

An extremely whacky variable campaign where some folks have a class that they can barely use because of armor restrictions, and others become stupidly powerful because of symmetry... such as Oracle/Sorcerers.

Absolute destruction of the plane. Which is why this never happens.

It HAS happened. They are dead.

Most will be barely capable (10-11 Cha) so they learn "day to day life" cantrips/spells (prestidigitation, mending), some get nothing but a few bonus feats (Cha below 10). Everyone now has Good Will saves and at least a slightly expanded class skills list.

Pity the fool who underestimates the Cavaliers and similar characters.

" His mount his dead, his armor sundered, his weapons shattered. What threat is he now? "
" You just made me very angry. "
" .... "

I've been working on a homebrew campaign with a similar idea in mind (except that instead of just sorcerer, you can choose sorcerer, summoner, oracle or inquisitor, and class features only, not HP, BAB, skills, saves). I've been thinking about how this would effect society at different levels.

It would lead to people not dumping stats that might normally be dumped (more charismatic fighters, wiser rogues, etc.), and you'd have to take into consideration armor spell failure (mine is still in development, but at present the spells granted by the "gestalt-light" class are spell-like, so no spell failure), how to generate random spells (especially for high level characters and NPCs, haven't figure this part out yet), how this will interact with prestige classes (if allowed at all), bloodragers, etc.

How will this effect politics? Is this a new event that occurs or has this been going on for awhile? Now that martials can (conceivably) cast spells, will this tip the balance for those in charge or will it cement the power of those who already can have ultimate cosmic power? Assuming you are allowing wildblooded bloodlines, it could make wizard/sage sorcerers even more powerful than they were before, but there will also be cleric/empyreal sorcerers and (as was previously pointed out) oracle/sorcerers that have more options since they won't need to choose specific bloodlines for their casting stats to be synced.

Oh, and if spells are randomly determined, you could get some combinations that don't work with their bloodlines (or barely work), such as all divination spells for an orc bloodline sorcerer.

Sorry that I might be rambling. I've been working on this for a long time and I'm eager to share but it's all still in progress, so not everything has been fleshed out yet. I still haven't figured out a way to generate NPCs quickly that make sense (interactions with waitresses and bartenders shouldn't always be the same as city watch, especially if you take the belief that what powers they were born with would likely influence their careers later in life). :D

A few things to keep in mind.

A) Just because you have another list of spells and bloodline powers to access doesn't instantly mean you're twice as strong; you're twice as versatile, maybe, and have better staying power, but you are still limited by action economy.

B) Random doesn't necessarily mean totally random. Random spells could be weighted based on the bloodline.

C) It could help matters if bloodlines were randomized as well. If this is to simulate global influx of magical heritage, it would make sense that you cannot just "control" the source of that heritage and, instead, you get a random bloodline. If you wanted Sorcerer to be your "primary" class and pick your bloodline, then maybe instead of Gestalting you can get a double caster level bonus or some such. Still the same power, save, BAB, etc progression as anyone else, but a 4th level non-Gestalt Sorc casts spells as if it were 8th level and gets to select their bloodline while everyone else just gets Sorc as a secondary add-on to their "primary" class.

In a way, this is like taking the "Guns everywhere" approach to gunslingers and applying it to magical heritage; Magic, magic everywhere. Not precisely a "bad" idea, per say, but the world will need some tweaking to make it work well.
