Familiar Greensting's INT for a witch / wizard with 20 int?

Advice

Hey guys!
reading these three pages:
http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/monsters/monsterCreation.html
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/vermin/scorpion/scorpion- greensting
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2lqdr?Scorpion-familiar

Im not sure how to nunmber my Greensting's INT.
the d20pfsrd page says "has an Intelligence score appropriate for its master's level" - so if i have 20 int (playing buy 25 - so have 18 plus 2 in elf ratial) i immidietly thought - he should have 20 int as well.

but then i read the other pages and im not sure about the math behind all of this.

USing PCgen i got:
STR: 2
DEX: 16
CON: 10
INT: 10
WIS: 10
CHA: 2

but im not sure if the math is correct.
please assist?

Read the Wizard section of the CRB. It has a chart for this.

Your int score has nothing to do with your familiar's int score.

"Appropriate for its master's level" means that you look up in the table provided what int score your familiar gets at the level you are.

Thank you!

oddly, it seems like the Wizard can't choose Vermin (my scorpion!) as their familiar? is that correct?

Wizards can choose Greensting Scorpions. What makes you think that they can't?

I suspect it is because the rules say this:

Quote:
Only a normal, unmodified animal may become a familiar. An animal companion cannot also function as a familiar.

Animal is a type. Vermin is also a type. Vermin type is not animal type. Therefore, vermin cannot be familiar, as that requires animal.

That isn't meant to be rules, though. It's kind of stupid, but that's how you get these rulebooks sometimes. The writers of the familiar section hadn't thought that other writers might want to make vermin an option for familiars, so they went and wrote that. You should disregard that rule, it isn't working as intended.

There is no need to houserule this. The New Familiars section of Ultimate Magic explicitly overrides the Core Rulebook on this issue.

PCgen less, read more.

You are 100% correct, just doing PCGen for the sheet and stuff, this is only my first time doing Pathfinder so im trying to be organized!

So back to the original question,
is anyone (please) willing to help me do the math for the scorpions stats? im not figuring this out for some reason.

use the stats of the scorpion. then look at the wizard's familiar rules to figure out the Natural armor boost and the int. So if you're lv1 it's int will be 6.

There's not much to figure out, you just use the base stat of a green scorpion

It's int is whatever it says on the chart depending on your wizard/witch level

It has half of your hit points

And has the same skill ranks in its skills that you do in yours, barring any natural skill points it has itself.

Ok, sorry about the harshness. Welcome to the game. As others have said, you use the bestiary stats modified for the Familiar class ability.
