How to beat up incorporeal things?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Anybody got spells or special tactics that could be used? No access to shops right now.

Also, on a slightly related note if you're attempting a combat maneuver, and get hit by an attack of opportunity that heals you, do you get a bonus to the combat maneuver, or do you just take no penalty?

Liberty's Edge

Ghost touch weapons or spells with the Force descriptor.

I'm not even sure how to answer your second question, let alone how that possible interpretation could even come about. Maybe you could describe the incident more.

For #2, not that it has happened, but let's say a person with negative energy affinity gets bites an attack of opportunity from a dread wraith while attempting to make a reposition maneuver without the improved Repositioning feat.

For #1, any spells that can make the incorporeal things harm-able by the rest of the party?

The spell Ghost Bane Dirge will make them vulnerable as if you had Ghost Touch weapons, but they do get a save and its very short duration

Force Anchor does full damage and limits the mobility of creatures.

Silver Crusade

+1 ghost touch net is pretty solid. Another thing my group has debated is casting mage armor on the incorporeal. Wouldn't that limit it's mobility as far as floating through walls and the like?

But I digress. Disrupt undead, magic missile, protection from evil, mage armor, shield, spiritual weapon, Magic weapon spell, wand of cure light wounds are all various low level ways to fight incorporeal undeads. Ghost salt (or something) weapon blanched on crossbow bolts or arrows is another way that's cheap

Ectoplasmic Eruption. Psychic 7, Spiritualist 6.

Does 6d6 bludgeoning damage to all creatures in a 30 foot radius burst. Reflex for half. It affects ethereal and incorporeal creatures normally.

Other effect: ethereal and incorporeal creatures in the area must make a Will save (regardless of whether or not they made the Reflex save) or be pushed partially into the material plane. Those who fail can't enter or pass though solid objects, take half damage from nonmagical attacks, take full damage from magic weapons, spells, spell-like effects, and supernatural effects. Corporeal spells and other effects that don't do damage affect the target normally instead of having a 5% miss chance. It keeps all other benefits of being incorporeal and its AC does not change. This effect lasts 1 round/level.

If the spell works, the initial damage is the least impressive part. Your entire party gets to attack the target normally, and it can't escape by phasing through through a wall or the floor.

a lot of holy holy water ?
its cheap and work for this small little incorporeal things

"ghost touch net" wow awesome :D

Holy Water is actually hard to use on incorporeal things. You can't throw flasks you have to actually dump the contents on them in melee.

yes , kind Sir your right ! but ppl in my country say something like "if you don't have what you like , like things that you have"

bucket of holy water for mr Fighter

Any attack with a magic weapon, or temporarily magical weapon (due to casting spells like Magic Weapon or Magic Fang) will damage incorporeals at 1/2 their normal damage - takes longer but it gets the job done.

That makes no sense... if you pour it on them and they cannot dodge by becoming incorporeal, then what does it matter if the holy water is in the vial? If the vial passes through them, then the "water" should still hit them....
