You can check on all the items seen so far in this thread. Just click on the link to the google doc in the first post and you'll be able to find out if and when someone who contributes to the doc has seen your item.
Finding your item while voting is all luck. Some people have seen their items 4-5 times after 1000+ votes, while some haven't seen theirs at all. You're right though, not knowing is pretty nail-biting.

Finally saw my item, after reaching dedicated, so it took me 500+ votes to see it once!
