Lodge keeps changing

I have a 2nd-level halfling fighter/barbarian I've played in a couple of games (spread out over YEARS). At first, he was in the Lantern Lodge. They expired, so I moved him into the Andoran lodge.

Now I guess that's defunct too, and I need to get him into the Sovereign Court lodge before my next PFS game this evening.

What is the process for doing this? Do I have to make changes, or do certain things get grandfathered in?

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

You were allowed a free Faction change during Season 6.

I don't see why you couldn't just make that switch now.

I sympathize. I had a character go from Shadow Lodge to Qadira to Dark Archive (where he's happiest now).

Are there any mechanical things I need to account for? Or do I just change the faction name on the sheet?

I vaguely remember there being mechanical benefits for the factions.

You just change what you write down on your session sheet.

Also if you wondered, Mike did say if you hadn't played a character all through season 6 you still got the free change. You keep any old rewards that you received in your old faction.

Scarab Sages 4/5

You can keep any traits, vanities, or boons from your old faction, so there shouldn't be anything to change other than the faction on your character sheet and on the character on the website. Going forward, you will only have access to purchase vanities from the new faction.

Be sure to change the character's faction on the Paizo website to allow for proper reporting.

The only perk of the factions now is access to different faction traits and access to vanities. Previously (season 0 or maybe even 1) there were different items available for prestige purchases.

Ninja'd by an Osirian Sorcerer! Blast you, Thune the Constant!

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

As a level 2 character, you probably didn't have any.

Season 6 Guide, 'Changing Your Faction' wrote:
With the change of most factions from nation-based to ideal-based at the start of Season 6, every character is allowed one free faction change anytime during Season 6. After the one free faction change, if at any point you become disillusioned with your faction, you can change to a different one. The longer you have spent in service to a faction, the higher the relative cost to change to one that hasn’t seen firsthand your ability to forward their goals. Changing your faction costs a number of Prestige Points equal to 3 times your character level, but does not alter your Fame score. (Prestige Points and Fame are fully explained in Chapter 5). You retain your faction traits, if any, but lose any faction-specific Prestige Awards you have accumulated during your time with your old faction; generic Prestige Awards from Table 5–4 and Vanities (Pathfinder Society Field Guide 60) are unaffected.
Season 6 Guide, 'Faction Retirement' wrote:

From time to time, over the course of the campaign, one or more factions may be retired from active play. Should a faction be retired, it will feature in a special scenario designed to wrap up its story. Any character who belongs to a faction that’s retiring and receives credit for participating in one of these faction scenarios will be able to receive a special reward on the scenario’s Chronicle sheet. At anytime thereafter, before the faction is removed as a legal choice from the campaign, that character may change to a different faction one time at no cost. Any faction-specific vanities, titles, traits, prestige items, or other purchases made while the character was a member of the retired faction are retained by that character with no changes. After the faction is retired, none of these faction-specific items are available for future purchase. Characters who belong to a faction that’s being retired but who do not receive credit for the associated retirement scenario prior to the faction being eliminated must change factions (again at no cost) prior to receiving credit for any further scenarios. No character may belong to a retired faction after the faction’s elimination under any circumstances. Finally, a GM who has a character in one of the factions that’s being retired may assign the Chronicle sheet from the special scenario to one of his characters that is higher-level than the scenario in this instance only.

Liberty’s Edge faction PCs qualify for Andoran faction vanities and mission boons available in past seasons. Likewise, Dark Archive faction PCs qualify for Cheliax rewards, Scarab Sages as Osirion, The Exchange as Qadira, and Sovereign Court as Taldor. Without a boon that states otherwise, a PC cannot earn Sczarni vanities or boons.

Why Sovereign Court rather then Liberties Edge which is just Andoran anyways?

Eeeeeeh...

I'd be more careful about those sorts of statements. When the Faction changes happened there were quite a few ppl that decided the new versions were different enough from the old ones to warrant switching. I remember several well-reasoned arguments (in- and out-of-character) that especially pointed out the differences between Andoran and Liberty's Edge ("Colsin Maldris has gone rogue"!").

I had probably half a dozen PCs that switched because of conflicting differences.

The Exchange

I've been playing my first PFS character since Season 0 (I pretty much only play PFS at Gen Con) and he has belonged to four factions:

Andoran > Shadow Lodge > Sczarni > The Exchange

Only the switch to Shadow Lodge was voluntary, the others were due to the factions being retired...

Its still beer, bawds and beheading slavers, same as it always was.

I did end up picking up Liberty's Edge shortly after I started this thread, but I didn't see any reason to edit my initial post; it wasn't really relevant to the core question.

Bah, it's better nowadays. No need fer Council infighting or looking for whores for Maldris. What a way to serve liberty that was!

The Sovereign Court makes an entirely respectable home for the more socially adept Sczarni given its rather strong family/mafia vibe.

Piggy-backing on Dork's thread, can someone clarify something. We've got local players who seem to think that faction-vanities are not available because all published vanities are for "retired" factions.

Are, say, Qadira vanities available to be bought by Exchange PCs today, in Season 7?

The only faction prestige awards no longer available are Shadow Lodge, Lantern Lodge and Sczarni.

For purpose of purchasing faction prestige awards the factions count as follows:
Dark Archives counts as Cheliax
Liberty's Edge counts as Andoran
Exchange counts as Qadira
Scarab Sages counts as Osirion
Sovereign Court counts as Taldor

Grand Lodge and Silver Crusade didn't change.

Edit: for both Sczarni and Shadow Lodge there are boons that allow a character who used to be part of them to still purchase factionspecific prestige awards, so for older characters who haven't been played a lot there is still a way to get the prestige awards if they were part of those two factions.

BTW they are properly called prestige awards, though they are often referred to as faction vanities outside of the Pathfinder Society Field Guide.

There should be a section of the roleplaying guild guide which specifies that they are still available with some exceptions.

  • Liberty's Edge may purchase Andoran prestige awards.
  • Sovereign Court may purchase Taldor prestige awards.
  • The Exchange may purchase Qadira prestige awards.
  • Dark Archive may purchase Cheliax prestige awards.
  • Scarab Sages may purchase Osirion prestige awards.
  • Silver Crusade may purchase Silver Crusade prestige awards.
  • Grand Lodge may purchase Grand Lodge prestige awards.
  • PCs with the Spirit of the Shadow Lodge boon may purchase Shadow Lodge prestige awards.
  • PCs with the Family Tradition boon may purchase Sczarni prestige awards
  • No PCs may purchase Lantern Lodge prestige awards.

Scarab Sages

Whatever new faction you join, you will also have access to the Faction Journal Card for that faction.

Just as an FYI, the change from Andoran to Liberty's Edge did not use up the free faction change for Season 6. That was more of a "If you were such-and-so faction, you are now, without cost, a member of this-and-that faction instead."

Not really. I am not working for those old-fashioned aristocrats, I am working for the wave of the future, the Living God Razmir!

All hail and worship Razmir!

Now, if only I could figure out which faction is the proper spiritual home for me, now that Sczarni is gone, and The Exchange doesn't work....

Bio:
Kitsune
Sorcerer with Razmiran Priest archetype, and the Undead bloodline
Former Sczarni, nominally The Exchange (haven't been played since Sczarni went away)
Mildly Chaotic (Kitsune, after all), Lawful Neutral PC (Razmiran is LE, so, I think, I must be LN to be PFS legal, as a Priest of Razmir).

Dark Archive. After all, when Razmir extends his dominion to Absolom, it will be convinient for him if all the cool toys are all in one place, and it will be to your credit if you can tell him where that place is...

Razmir isn't a real god so you don't have to be within one step of him.

How dare you spread such blasphemy?!?!? The servants of the Living God are used to persecution from those outside our borders but it is our desire to spread the true word of our savior to all.

Unfortunately, that doesn't deal with the issue that the player has with Zarta. Seriously, I had issues playing a couple of the Season 5 scenarios, because I am still not sure I wanted to rescue her. I did my best, and we succeeded, but, honestly, I would not have shed much in the way of tears if my party had failed...

Yes, but you are planning on betraying her and handing her precious archive over to Razmir. In the mean time you might as well make use of her. (I did say it was the cynical answer)

Alternately, Scarab Sages, and lobby for the idea that as a Living God Razmir should be invited to be one of the Jewel Sages. After all, what living being could be more worthy?

I had similar experiences with PCs wanting to kill Grandmaster Torch after playing [REDACTED] and then meeting him again only one Season later.

I played <redacted> before, and with a different PC, I played the one that my other PC cooperated in preventing GMT from escaping at the end of.

Spoiler:
I played Destiny of the Sand, Part 1 before playing Rivalry's End.

Fortunately for the game, the other players were all fairly new, and had not had much experience with GMT and his antics, so we played it "straight", although a couple of the encounters were fairly difficult (ok, one was because the GM ran both tiers together, and didn't include the 4 player adjustment. Then again, that was against the reptiles, and we had a barbarian...

And some of the things were fairly easy. After the initial encounter at the gate, we found one of the tasks would have been fairly difficult, except my PC had a discount boon, and just enough money to buy a Pathfinder Pouch at the discounted rate. And it was just about my only PC that item would really work for, as that was, actually, the Razmiran Priest/Sczarni fellow.)

I played Rivalry's End with a fighter using a longbow. No real bones in the issue, but he didn't think Torch acted in any sort of honorable fashion, so he helped the party deal with Torch appropriately as an oathbreaker running away.
